4741.1 | | SIEVAX::JAMIE | Batteries not included! | Wed May 15 1991 05:45 | 11 |
| Didn't you consider using the banner printing programs on VMS ? It's a
lot cheaper ;-)
I think it's called GOTHIC.EXE. Not sure of a location though. The
games conference may have a pointer.
Cheers,
Jamie.

4741.2 | imbedded drivers ? | SALEM::LEIMBERGER | | Wed May 15 1991 06:59 | 9 |
| Have you been able to print anything ? I know that System Eyes has
printed pic that were over 2 pages in size(not landscape). If you can't
print anything then we have to look at what is going on outside of the
software. I was impressed with what I saw. It is an error message I
I've never seen before, so I'd be interested in finding out what is
happening. It almost sounds like it has hardcoded drivers,and yours
ain't one of them. Thats a longshot(scary) but my best shot. Did the
manual list any restrictions on print drivers ?

4741.3 | Gothic is on FF #3 | MR4DEC::GAY | Underground living can be Hobbit forming | Wed May 15 1991 13:32 | 8 |
| Then there's always the gothic on the Amiga. It was on Fred Fish
number three, I think. Works just fine for me (I've run off many
yards of banners with it). I wouldn't mind some more fonts, but
haven't gotten so tired of the ones it comes with to actually go build
my own. If anyone else has done it already, let me know!

4741.4 | Deluxe Photo Lab Works Great! | RIPPLE::LUKE_TE | | Wed May 15 1991 16:17 | 9 |
| Deluxe Photo Lab has always been my banner program. It lets you set a
a screen that is any pixel width by any pixel length. I just use one
that is about 2000x 200 and away I go. I use the large Kara ColorFonts
and get great results! I often get comments like "that's the best
banner I've ever seen on a computer". Of course, my boss bought me an
LJ250 to do transparencies for work, so my output is in color as well.

4741.5 | Print Master + | CSC32::A_ANDERSON | DTN 592-4170 NSU/VAX | Wed May 15 1991 17:25 | 5 |
| I have used Deluxe photo lab also. But the cheapest is the Print
Master+. If you do not mind a brain dead I*M PC port.
Its cheap and gets the job done.

Thanks to all for the replies.
RE: printing anything/printer drivers.
Yes, printing works fine(but slowly) for all my other software.
The manual says it supports preferences printers. The software uses
a standard-looking preferences requestor to select/setup a printer.
So I presume the printer is using preferences printers.
RE: VAX gothic banner maker
I have used that before, and I would like to find it again.
RE: FF gothic. Thanks. I will get a copy.
RE: I did not know that DPL did banners. The System Eyes folks did not
mention it either. And I have seen those Kara fonts. They are nice
but expensive....some day.
RE: Print Master+. I will check it out.
I called the Pelican Press 800 number. They did not know what I did
from prefs that would give me that error. It is a legal error, just
has a lot of possible causes.
I am going to try it again tonight.

| The fact that the program lets you select a printer is suspicious.
Check for a selection of "preferences printer".

4741.8 | Do Prefs == Prefs | ABSISG::HENNESSY | | Thu May 16 1991 21:11 | 13 |

RE: .7
Pelican Press boots from its own "system disk".
When that disk boots and I click on the floppy disk icon a standard
disk window opens, in this window is a prefs icon. Clicking on that
I get what appear to be standards prefs screens. The CBMMPS1000
selection is what I use for all my other software. I set all the
params exactly like the prefs on my own workbench disk(which work fine
with all the other software I have.)

| Oh, Sorry, I misunderstood. Try running Pelican Press under your own
workbench to see if it works any better.

4741.10 | PPage gives good results but takes a while to print. | CARROL::MELLITZ | | Mon May 20 1991 09:02 | 12 |
| I've usd ProPage with.
o One 90 deg rotated box per page
o Boxes are stetched to take up the entire page
o Link boxes between pages
o In the printing requester, turn eject page OFF.
o Choose a large font size 72 points = 1 inch character cell hieght
Great results, with compugraphic fonts... But it takes about 7 minutes a page
to print.
