What's the closest you can get to the Truevision 24 bit Vista card on
the Amiga 3000, the Firecracker? High resolution and 24 bits/pixel are
requirements. Forget the bridge boards.

What are the specifications of the Truevision 24-bit Vista card?
If it is similar to the new Panasonic digital camcorders it will
be 768 pixels wide by 255 lines per frame. The Video Toaster
does that, and I suspect the other 24-bit boards do, too.

I'm using a old mimtics framebuffer on my 3000. It's 24 bit
768x has trouble with 2 MB chip ram. I have also used a DCTV.
There is also the firecracker 24. I will also work on a 3000.

Reviews I've seen all say that the firecracker is very close to the
standard set by the Targa boards. I get the feeling that just because
your pumping out 24 bit images dosen't mean you are getting the image
quality your led to believe. The Targa card is the standard it the
industry today. I hope the Firecracker reaches this standard. Of course
at $1800.00 it will be awhile before this guy gets one.

The software vendor is currently running on a 386 PC with the VISTA
board at 24 bits, 1024x780 resolution. They feel this is minimal for
their application (Industrial design). I'm trying to convince them
that they should be looking at a 3000 for price performance, but they
insist on the high resolution. The Firecracker 24 only supports up to
1024x482. More than adequate for video, but less than spectacular for
high resolution graphics and imaging. Looking at the cost of the
Firecracker however, makes me wonder if a VISTA/Bridgeboard combination
might still be the ticket. Anybody got a feel for the total cost of
this (3000 based), as well as any performance tradeoffs because of the
Bridgeboard? By the way, is the UNIX os out yet? $$?
thanks,
dan

re .4
I played with UNIX and a A3000 UX at the memory location last
weekend. I know you can't buy UNIX as a kit yet, but I think you
can buy a A3000 UX with UNIX.
As for the Video CBM is making the card you need. But it is also
not available yet.
