Hi,
I use a lot of PD stuff and have been zapped by the odd virus now and
again. My son uses the amiga for playing games, but usually forgets to
power down for thirty seconds the clear the memory, and get rid of any
virus that might be resident. We have lost several expensive games
through this so I got hold of some decent backup utilities. I have had
some success with some games and complete failures with others.
I only want to backup so I do not lose the expensive software, not to
illegal "pirate" copies.
I recently thought that I had success with F19 Intercepter, but found
that the game loads and starts okay , then blows the engines and ejects
about thirty seconds into the game.
I used a NIBBLE copier with no errors. Why does it load this section of
the game nomatter what mission is selected?? I know it must be part of
the protection, but is there a way around it??
Regards,
Col.

| 4733.1 | save the bootblock ? | SALEM::LEIMBERGER | Fri May 10 1991 08:00 | 11 | |
Another alternative is to get a program that will store the boot block
of the game disk. If it gets infected you can take the saved
bootblock, and copy it over the bad one. The software developers are
pretty clever in regards to protection. Falcon has a similar scheme.
IN dungeon master i was going along fine until all of a sudden my whole
group died, for no apparent reason. I went back to playing with the
original. I am going to update raw copy, and get the new Project D.
I haven't used rawcopy since I bought it but for ten bucks I can't see
letting it slip away.

PS you may need one of the software, hardware combos for the newer games

Yup, it's part of the protection... First you have to be careful when using
PD stuff from unknown sources.
I'll always run one of the many Virus checkers on my disks before I actually
use em.
2nd F-18 Interceptor asks for a code in the begining of the program,
You can either use the flight codewheel or one of the backup programs in
possesion should have a parameter for it.
This will allow you to enter 00000 for the code everytime.
Also, F-18 does not need a nibbler to be backed up. It's a straight dos
copy. As a practice, I don't use a nibbler when I don't have to, it sometimes
messes up my backup disks, (overkill maybe?).

| 4733.3 | try again. | WARHED::PATTERSON | Mon May 13 1991 08:35 | 11 | |
OoopS!
My son tells me the game is F19 RETALIATOR not interceptor. I
think this may have confused others as well as me. Does it make any
difference? Does anyone know a way to copy it?
I may end up going out and spending 39 pounds on a DATEL copier.
