4729.0. "Iff to postscript colour converter" by COMICS::HOGGAN (No, I am not kidding !!!) Thu May 09 1991 10:00

Hi,

Does anyone know of a utility that sits on the VAX and allows conversion
from IFF to POSTSCRIPT whilst retaining colour information ?

cheers dave

I DON'T, but I was wondering where you were going to use a color
postscript file. ProPage will take in an iff,and output a color
postscript file if thats all you want.

    Dave,
I've got a copy of CSIX with documentation, it works pretty well.
If somebody will tell me how, I'll copy it over to TAPE:: (I got an
"insufficient privelege" warning when I just tried). Either that or
I'll make it publically available from my account for a while ( again -
if somebody will tell me how!).

    cheers,

    Russell.

CSIX should be in Crista::amiga: . I know we use it all the time. It
has nothing to do with postscript. I takes a IFF file and converts it
to a sixel file for printing on an LJ252,or even better an LCG03 .

4729.6Where?KAHUNA::SUMNERThu May 09 1991 13:316

Is CSIX a IFF to SIXEL file convertor to where you can display the file
on a VT340? Is this program in TAPE:: somewhere?

Csix defaults to producing output that is VT340 viewable.
A -pLJ250 is suggested to adjust it for better printing on a LJ250
    printer.

I had good luck with Perfect Vision digitized 320x200x16 greyscale
IFF pics. It also handles HAM mode, but the LJ250 does better with
those than a 16 color VT340 terminal since it offers more colors.

CSIX.EXE and CSIX.DOC are available on...

If you need a postscript file, you can use SIXTOPS. I'll try and dig
    out my copy of SIXTOPS.

4729.12CLAZ works .... sometimesFRSOLD::ZIMMERMANNSat May 25 1991 16:298
    re: .10

yes CLAZ is the VMS IFF to PS - converter, but it works for me only
on some pics (2 out of 10). The others are crashing CLAZ with error-
messages like "plane error" and others i can't remember.

When CLAZ crashes on me, it still seems to have done the conversion, if
    a CTRL-C it!.

    Hi,

Trying to use CLAZ on, say, the Chaos Strikes Back maps, the pictures
convert but all colour info seems to be missing????? Has anyone had the
same kind of problem. I tried another IFF picture with similar results.

    cheers dave.

I originally used claz as a starting point when I wrote CSIX. Claz has
a problem with the sixth bitplane which some programs like DPaint sometimes
add to bitmaps even when you are not in HAM mode. It's been quite a while
but I believe the IFF spec allows this as a "mask" plane. However claz
doesn't use the real IFF parsing code and doesn't account for the presence
of this bit plane.

I think there is a SIXTOPS floating around. You could use CSIX and then
SIXTOPS maybe...
