4708.1 | Setmap ? | DUCK::NONDEP | | Fri Apr 26 1991 08:37 | 12 |
| Alfred ,
This might not be of great use but anyway here is something that you
could try.
Change your set map.
Open a CLI or shell window and type setmap "de" i think see your Amiga
manual under setmap. This allows me to change from the default american
keyboard to a french keyboard "setmap f"

4708.2 | 8bit settings ?? | BEBBI::STEIGER | Sandoz Account Consultant | Fri Apr 26 1991 13:31 | 7 |
| The AMIGA uses the ISO Latin Character set (as DEC). This character set
is based on 8 bits. If you are experiencing v and o and | instead of
 you might be suffering from the fact that Kermit when in 7 bit mode
truncates bit 8 in non binary xfers. Kermit can be set to 8-bit
transparency (at least the recent versions).

4708.3 | Character set problem? | TLE::RMEYERS | Randy Meyers | Mon Apr 29 1991 11:18 | 14 |
| Re: .1
I don't think changing the keymap would help. The keymap controls what
character codes the Amiga associates with each keyboard key press. It
does not affect the Amiga's interpretation of character codes stored
in files.
Re: .0
I am not sure, but I believe that the Macintosh uses a non-standard
character set instead of the ISO standard character set used by Amigas.
What does the German characters turn into after the transfer.

| Re: .0
It must be the 7 vs. 8 bit problem in Kermit. I was able to download
(via Zmodem) a read_me file from one of the fish disks that was written
by a German author with no problems. The umlauts and the double-s display
just fine on the Amiga (they display just fine on VMS as well).
