4690.1 | Auto 132 columns took you by surprise. | STAR::ROBINSON | | Fri Apr 19 1991 18:19 | 7 |
| I don't have all of the answers, but I know about the small fonts.
VLT switches to a 132 col font when you shrink the window. To get the
80 col font stretch the window wide. You might want to/need to set your
preferences or use one of the hacks to get a wider WB screen. I use
pprefs on a FF disk. It works fine.

4690.2 | When did I shrink the window? | AISG::LANDINGHAM | Guy M., DLB5-3/E5, 291-9268 | Sun Apr 21 1991 13:08 | 11 |

Thanks, Dave. I do not understand why the window is being shrunk just because I
specify VLT to use the Workbench screen, though. The window appears to be the
same size, only in the Workbench colors, and with the tiny font. Column 1
appears to start about 1/4 of the screen's width to the right of the left edge
of the screen. If I specify 132 columns, the text jumps to the left so that
column 1 is where you'd expect it, but switching back to 80 columns won't change
the font, column 1 just jumps back to it's 1/4 point.
Still confused...

I believe the Workbench screen isn't wide enough to use the 80 col.
font. I just tried it myself, and from the disk activity, I could
tell it was switching to the 132 col font. I haven't heard of a
font for a workbench screen that's good for 80 col. I use the custom
screen myself, I like to set the colors.
