4688.0. "Hard Drive Questions" by NQOAIC::NILSEN (Bob @ 264-7017) Fri Apr 19 1991 09:05

      I have a question about hard drives.

      I have a A2000 with a 50meg 3.5" HD.   I would Like to also use my
    old IBM type drives. (RD53 style) I saw a 2090 controller for $50.00
    the other night and thought this might be the cheapest way to expend.
    What kind of problems am I going to get into. Would you recommend NOT
    using ST506 drives over SCSI drives?
     If its ok to use these drives, what do I need to do to set them up?

    Thanks  Bob

4688.2More Hard Disk QuestionsNQOAIC::NILSENBob @ 264-7017Sat Apr 27 1991 00:4621
    I have a question about a message I get from the Rd53 I am trying to
    run as drive #2 off a 2090 controller. When I CD to dh1: I get this
    message.
             Error Validating disk
             RD53
    	     Key 1881942122 out of range

    What does this message mean? and how do I fix the problem.
    I prep the disk with :

    8 heads
    1024 cyl
    17 blocks/track
    0 interleave
    and formated it as one partition. Info showed 69meg.
    So what is wrong?

    Thanks Bob

4688.3you need min. 1 cyl OFSFSCORE::KAYEwhere's my Kama Sutra pop-up book for zero-gMon Apr 29 1991 09:347
The RD53 data looks good (i have a ST225 & RD53 connected to a 2090A
without problems).
I have a 1 cyl partition at the front in OFS and the rest of the disk
is FFS (you must do this). So when you PREP it make sure you end &
start at cyl 2. I'll post my mountlist if you really need it.

4688.4Bad block number foundTLE::RMEYERSRandy MeyersMon Apr 29 1991 11:5119
Re: .2

A "key" to an AmigaDOS file system is a block number.

The message "Key 1881942122 out of range" means that while the file
system was reading directory blocks or file extension blocks it found
a reference to block number 1881942122. (For example, the directory
block for some file might have said that the file began at block
1881942122.)

The problem is that block number 1881942122 is outside of the partition.
In other words, the file system is inconsistent and refers to blocks
that are not available.

Try one of the following:

	backing up the drive, formatting it, restoring it
	running Quarterback tools
	running DiskDoctor
4688.5FMT parms neededPOLAR::RIDGETue May 28 1991 12:536
    Can someone give me the fmt.parms and a mountlist for RD53? I bought a
    RLL controller and now am having trouble formatting my drive.

    Thanks in advance
