Q1 and Q2: Utilities to format, read and write MS-DOS diskettes are
found on the Extras disk that comes with the operating system. To
read, write and format 3-1/2" 720K diskettes on an Amiga, you need to
use either Cross-DOS (commercial) or MSH (shareware).
Q3: Do NOT format your download disk on an office machine. Default
density for both VAX programs and PCs is "high density," basically
twice the capacity of the "double density" format Amigas can read.
That aside, PCDISK works fine on 3100-series workstations (3-1/2"
disks). Someone else will have to tell you if there's a way to use
5-1/4" MS-DOS diskettes on a MicroVAX II or 2000-class machine.

| Hi there,
I've just recently cracked the Download Puzzle and maybe can help.
First of all there is a difference between DOS and Amiga formatted disks. I
use DOS-2-DOS to read DOS formatted disk's on my Amiga.
To get the De-archive software on the Amiga your best bet is to copy the VAX
equivalent's (ZOO.EXE, LHARC.EXE, etc, etc) into your system account, then copy
the amiga versions and un-pack them in your system account. It's then a simple
case of transferring the unpacked amiga versions onto a DOS formatted disk,
taking it home and using CROSSDOS, DOS-2-DOS, etc convert them to run on your
Amiga. You will probably need a second drive to do all this.
When formatting DOS disk's on you office PC use the command ;
FORMAT A: /N:9 /T:80
This will allow the disk's to be read in an Amiga drive.
I use a DECstation 350 to transfer archived files from my account onto Floppy
and have encountred no problems so far.
I hope this get's you started, if your still confused just stick at it and
ask questions. There are people in this conference who know a lot more about
this than me who will try to help.
Cheers,
Geo.
