4660.0. "Help with MED3.00" by CSSE32::SMITH (Reality, just a visible imagination?) Thu Apr 04 1991 23:47

Anyone using MED out there and understand the music notation? For
    example:

    D#3 510F

The doc says D#3 is the note. Is this "D sharp"? What the 3? an
octive? How does one enter "eighth/quarter/half/etc." notes?

    Any help appreciated,

MED notation is cryptic but I think it is all explained in the
fairly lengthy docs. Print 'em out and settle in for learning
a new programming language. You can enter lots of basic stuff
by just playing the keys, but the fancy stuff is done by modifying
     the "notes" with cryptic codes.

One hint I found about entering "eighth/quarter/half notes"
is to choose your tempo carefully. If you are going to want
a lot of notes or complex rhythms, you will want to increase
the tempo to allow more notes/second. You can also enter a
note and then edit the number codes to have it split up into
more notes for the same note entry.

Just like with any programming language, you should load in
some example song modules (code), play (run) them and then
find the code that does the interesting stuff.

     Good luck,
     Dave
