4649.0. "IBeM Emulator" by DICKNS::MACDONALD (Home of DEC Realtime and VAXELN Pubs) Mon Apr 01 1991 17:08

I tried a "crippleware" version of IBeM, the IBM XT emulator for the
Amiga. Darn thing works as advertised, including color CGA graphics! It
is slow as a dog of course, especially on math-intensive applications.
But, it does multitask with the Amiga so both an IBM application and
several Amiga applications can peacefully coexist. It *is* faster than
transformer, and it does wortk on accelerated Amigas.

The author wants $30 US for an uncrippled version. The uncrippled
version support multiple floppy drives (720K) and hard disks. No
parallel or serial port support as of today. The crippled version has a
15 minute timer built-in that causes the emulator to go away.

Is this a s/w emulator? All the recent ones I've seen are boards.

Could you post details/upload the demo?

Cheers,

Greg

There's already another note on this in 4558. I believe John Guineau
has already uploaded the demo to dfs::. Why we need 2 notes on the
    same subject is beyond me.

Your right we don't. however some people seem find it easier to write
a note than to take the time to respond to a previous one. a new noter
maybe!! but that ain't the case here. This seems to be normal for the
    originator of this note lately.

I gave the IBeM emulator a good workout this weekend... I created a hard disk
partition and booted no problem (DOS 4.01). Ran assorted disgnostics and it
passed them all! I was impressed... Installed Wordperfect (5.1) and it
ran fine (a tad slow, but definetly very usable). Even ran some CDROM
applications.

I'm impressed! I sent off for the real version today.
