4602.1 | Noticed this? | DECWET::DAVIS | Strength through Peace | Tue Mar 19 1991 19:12 | 8 |
| I used this version for a little while but I had problem uploading with
it. Whenever I initiated the transfer it took 1-3 minutes before the
first 1K block started xfering. Have you seen this problem. I thought
the problem with with our VAXen but I went back to the previous version
of XPRZmodem and the problem went away.

Finally went back to 2.00.

| For what it's worth, XprZmodem V2.10 is also on Fred Fish disk 459.
Its predecessor, V2.0, is on FF disk 261.
I've had no difficulty transferring large files (most recently the gcc
lharc file) with V2.0 and Handshake V2.20c (which is on FF disk 449).
I'll stick with the earlier XprZmodem version on the premise that, "if
it ain't broke, don't fix it."

| I have been using 2.1 for several weeks now without the delay problem.

4602.6 | I reproduced the problem last night | DECWET::DAVIS | Strength through Peace | Wed Mar 20 1991 12:10 | 13 |
| I double checked "the delay problem" last night and it is definitely
there with my set-up. It appears as though XPR doesn't realize that
the receiving system is ready to receive. After a delay, usually the
VAX sends another Bxxxxmumble or two, XPR sends the first block(1)
waits again then starts sending the rest of the file. The problem is
consistent and reproducable. Once I go back to v2.0, typing Amiga-S
starts the transfer immediately. This is with VLT v5.034. I didn't
try the new XPR with a v4.xx version of VLT. Version 2.0 works great
for me and while using v2.10 I didn't notice any speed up, especially
during error handling, so I'll stick with it.

I really can vouch for speed increases. I never did any comparison.
