I thought I had seen someone on Usenet claim they had it running on an A1000.
I think one of the concerns is memory. You need at least 1meg to make the
system usefull (I think 512K is minimum) - and 7 meg is right nice :-)

Hi,
Presuming that I had a copy of the images in .0, can I use a unix
system on the ami?

no. That is only a part of the distribution (the compiled kernel). There are
9 floppies in the real kit which must be purchased from Prentice Hall
for about $180.00 (I think)

| For someone with a 68020/6881, 4meg 32 bit memory, 3 meg 16 bit memory,
and a 105 meg harddisk, is this the best UN*X I can get for my system? Are there
other choices?

If your accelerator card includes an MMU (68851), then it might be
worthwhile waiting for Commodore to release its version of Unix for
A2500-class machines. They've stated on Usenet that there _will_ be a
general release. However, hardware requirements are along the lines of
what you've got for CPU, memory and harddrive, plus MMU chip and
probably a tape drive for backups.

Re: -.1
Thanks. Yes, there's an MMU. I Didn't have plans for a tape drive
though, so I hope there's alternative backup means (I have a "real"
SCSI controller, just no $$ for a drive). The reason I asked this was
because the CBM 68020 board will boot "AMIX" (which since was renamed
by CBM to Amiga Unix), so I wondered if it was still going to be true.
I'm also wondering how much space I'll lose on the 100meg drive to the
Unix/Minix software. I'd like to have AmigaDOS and *IX.
