4590.0. "Genlock/missing screen problem - help please!" by UFHIS::JMASLEN (The wheels fallen off your day yet?!) Fri Mar 15 1991 10:31

    Hi Ami's......

    I have a question:

My HAMA S-VHS genlock (PAL) is hooked up to my 500 externally, often
when I bootup, the screen 'cuts off' at he last 5th of the
screen.....the blue backgound is there but the mouse disappears behind
an invisable line that corresponds with the bottom edge of the first big
box of workbench(the one with the date/time etc).

To get rid of it (I can't animate in D.PaintIII) I have to switch off
and wait for a minute and if i am lucky the second or third try is
successful..............so the question is......what is wrong?

I have seen this only once or twice before I bought the genlock , so it
looks like it is a 'feature' that was already present but the genlock
aggrivates it and I see the problem more often.

My only thought was that the 500 was switching to NTSC mode (a wild
guess.........). The genlock works just fine and is a real joy to use
as it has also an RGB splitter in it and converts my composite
video/S-VHS signals to RGB fore the VT241. It draws 180mA from external
    12 Volts.

    Any suggestions/reasons appreciated

    cheers fjeff

You may have a bad system-configuration file.

I'm back!! I think I have an explanation after a little time with the
genlock........If I boot up without any video signal active then no
problem......THEN I turn the video signal on last!

Hope this helps anybody else, BTW. the HAMA genlock is a S-VHS unit and
is really a great unit for picture quality.
