4569.0. "Amiga 5000?" by SHARE::DOYLE () Thu Mar 07 1991 11:19

     A friend of mine was at the Bit-Bucket, and said that they had an
    AMIGA 5000, can anyone add to this, (he himself owns a clone).
     Is he mistaken or what, is this actually a modified 500?

    						Thanks;

    I'd be suprised to think CBM came out with a new computer and didn't
    tell anyone... maybe not.... ;')

     Well he said it was on the box in big letters across the front ...
    "A5000" (I figure he misread an A500 box).

    There's no such animal (yet 8^). Someone's either mistaken or blowing
    smoke. At present, the U.S. model lineup is as follows:

    	A500C	512KB system available through mass marketers
    	A500P	1MB system (includes A501) available through dealers
    	A2000	1MB 68000 system, single floppy
    	A2000HD	A2000 plus A2091 SCSI controller and 50MB Hard drive
    	A2500	A2000 with 68020/68881 co-processor board
    		(/30 has 68030/68882 co-processor board)
    	A3000	2MB 68030 system (three variants)
    	A3000UX	Pre-configured Unix (AT&T System V Release 4.0) system
    		(two variants)

    There's also an A1500 in the U.K., which is just a cost-reduced A2000.
    The rumor mill abounds with talk of additional models and variants.
    What counts is what is actually announced by Commodore-Amiga.

There is a UK company who advertise an Amiga 5000. It is basically an
accelerator for the 500/2000. I'll post further details on request, as I'll
have to dig out the ad.

Cheers,

Greg

    I also saw an add for an A5000 and B5000, by Solid State Leisure
    Limited. The base model of these two is the A5000-16, with a max of
    8 MIPS. Further up the range lies the B5000-40, blisttering on at an
    incredible 40Mhz, with an 18 MIPS peak. The A5000 costs 295, with the
    B5000 at 1162.
