4561.0. "working with EPS files" by SALEM::LEIMBERGER () Tue Mar 05 1991 06:07

    I have been playing around with using the postscript (EPS) output of
    the Art Department Professional in Pro draw,and Pro Page. I import the
    EPS file into Pro Draw without any problem,and the same for PPage.
    However I need to know how to Size(scale) an EPS file. I cropped the
    box but that gives me exactly that a cropped image. I read the manual,
    but now I am wondering if I missed something. I know that to scale a
    bitmap you need control keys. If I can get this to work I'll have
    access to all kinds of pics, because the original are scans from the
    JX100.
    	I also saw ECLIPS 2 on the shelf at system eyes. Before you get too
    excited you should know that it consists of EPS files. Looking at them
    you will find that they were created on an IBM clone 386 using Coral
    Draw. I won't buy them until I know how to best use them, this is why
    I started on this adventure in the first place. The Pics in Eclips 2
    are very good but EPS files are of limited value on the amiga because
    you cannot view them onscreen,and edit them. I hope that someone
    (ASDG) will develop a converter to solve this problem soon. This is
    currently the only area we lag behind the other systems. I will
    eventually get it all working together, but not having a postscript
    printer at home slows the learning process. I haven't tried to scale
    the eps files in decwrite yet.

    In ProDraw and ProPage the ALT key is a constraining tool. Holding the
    ALT key down while (in ProPage) sizing a box or (in ProDraw) while
    sizing an object will allow you to proportionally size the object to
    the contstraints of the box/object. Without using the ALT key you get
    croping instead of sizing.

    I won't say too much about RTFM (smile).

    See page 146 Appendix C in ProDraw manual. Look up sizing boxes in the
    index of the ProPage manual.

4561.2RTFM last nightSALEM::LEIMBERGERWed Mar 06 1991 06:1121
    Thank's for the reply. I leave work at around 12:30 so I missed it
    yesterday. However last night I RTFM after digging them out of the
    closet. I wanted to use PPage 2.0 but I haven't got my update yet.(it has
    been 4+ weeks since I ordered them) so I took my EPSF to the dealers.
    He let me use PPage 2.0 to generate the postscript file. Upon printing
    them out I am very pleased. While I have no problem with scaling in
    ppage I was never very happy doing it in PDraw so I never bothered.
    PPage is easier because you have the box as a visual guide.
    	I actually did two documents. The first was to large to put on a
    floppy. It contained the original size pic,and two scaled pics. i ran
    lharc on it to compress it. The second contained only one box scaled
    considerably. This I saved to floppy as a PS file. I have purchased a
    book of clipart that allows you to use no more than ten in a single
    document. I delibertly picked a picture with a lot of small detail to
    see how it would print. So far I have only printed the single pic
    document. It is a Menu headline with the word menu bordered on one side
    by two ducks,and high grass, on the other by bushes,and three
    partridges. I consider the quality to be good enough to allow me to
    generate art for a cookbook my wife is going to do. If anybody wants
    to see how it turned out I'll put it on Crista::Amiga:

4561.3missed the alt key onceSALEM::LEIMBERGERThu Mar 07 1991 05:085
    I came across a gotya, in my last experiment. When I sized the last
    box, I must have missed the ALT key because it came out cropped. I
    guess seeing as you don't get a graphic image of an EPS file You have
    to pull up the requester for the box to make sure you resized it.
