| I thought I saw a TeX port on one of more recent Fish Disks (or maybe I'm
imagining things). The version you mentioned is sold commercially, so
this is either some kind of demo, or a completely different port.

People ask about TeX all of the time on Usenet. The usual answer is that
the commercial version is excellent, some say the best on any platform-
especially the previewer, I guess. There are also two PD/Shareware? versions
available from the FTP site abcdfxxxx or whatever that contains so much
Amiga stuff. If you know how to get files or the FILES.Z list of files
(explained in a variety of notes) search for "tex". If not, and nobody
else comes up with the answers, I think I could dig up the names, locations
and pointers to the FTP notes later. Someone here may be using a PD
version already; I haven't yet.

| In addition, there is an Amiga implementation of TeX on the DECUS TeX
kit. I haven't tried it since I use AmigaTeX, the commercial product.
AmigaTeX _is_ an excellent implementation, by the way.

| Have a look at TAPE::USER2:[UPLOAD]PASTEX*.*
I have had a play with it and it seems to be a pretty good version of
TEX to me. Has a good previewer as well.

| ...or if anyone has fonts or a postscript dvi translator for PasTeX,
or more importantly a DVI2? that works for a Citizen GSX-140 (uses
the EPSON_Q driver).
And, to all you AmigaTeX users, I had heard the cost was $200 plus
an extra $100 per DVI2? driver. Is this true? So, if I wanted a
driver for my Citizen printer and another for PostScript to bring to
work it would be $200 over the $200 initial?

Yes, that is the list price, and you are correct, a PS driver plus an
EpsonQ driver would cost $200 over the AmigaTeX price of $200.
The dot matrix printers are packaged together, so you would probably
get them all for the $200, if that's any consolation.

4553.9 | PasTeX LJ252 DVI driver???? | HPSRAD::BOAEN | | Sat Oct 12 1991 23:46 | 9 |
| Hmm, Anyone know of an LJ250 DVI post-processor that would
let me print .DVI files on my Amiga? I'm in the provess of bringing
PasTeX up, but printing would be nice. I do have an old Star that's
epson compatible, but am hoping someone knows of a PaintJet DVI.
BTW, is the HP printjet sufficiently compatible w/ the paintjet
so that a printjet driver would at least give me B&W output?

| Re: .9
You may want to check out the TEX notefile and/or the DECus
distribution. Most DVI filters are PD and distributed in source so
porting shouldn't be that much of a problem. And I'm sure DECus
has support for the LJ250. (well..pretty sure at least).
Anyway, TeX notesfile is on:

I'm trying to get started using PasTeX. I've used LaTeX a few years back
on the VAX, but don't have enough basic doc. w/PasTeX to get started.
I think I've got installed properly on my '2000, in spite of the buggy
installation script that came with the PasTeX 1.3 kit.
What is the basic command syntax to compile a simple LaTeX document?
What environment variables must be set up?
If this is on the ENET, a pointer should be sufficient.
Also, any bookstores in the Marlboro/Littleton/Nashua area that
have the LaTeX and TeX books would be welcome.
