4532.0. "Mouse problems" by CEEOSI::WILTSHIRE (Dave - Networks Conformance Eng.) Thu Feb 21 1991 10:05

Is is possible to use the second (joystick) game port for the mouse
instead of the first i.e. is there a config option somewhere for this ?
My mouse port has developed a fault. The pointer moves fine
horizontally but vertical movement is either non-existent or sporadic
    at best !!!

Also, are there any good public domain diagnostics for the Amiga ?

    Thanks,

    Dave.

    Re: -.1

On Fish disk 371, there's Port2 which is a "sample C program showing how
to control a mouse connected to the second mouse/joystick port. Executable
creates a second mouse pointer that is controlled by a mouse plugged
    into port 2".

Don't know if this is going to help very much as I doubt that AmigaDOS
will recognize the switch from port 1 to port 2. It's worth a try as a
    diagnostic aid.

You might want to look into JoyMouse on ff412 as well, which allows you
to use your joystick as a mouse. Just some ideas. I've never used either
    of these programs myself.

As far as diagnostics, the best I can think of is MemDiag on ff214.

4532.2port or mouse?HYSTER::DEARBORNTrouvez MieuxThu Feb 21 1991 11:1610
I dropped my mouse once and it acted the same way. One of the rollers was
damaged. I was able to fix it. A spring had come loose. It was pretty
tricky getting it back into position, but that cured the problem.

Have you tried another mouse? How clean are the rollers?

Ignore this if you have clearly identified the problem as being the port.

re:-.2

Thanks for the pointer to the diagnostics and a possible workaround.
Repair shops in the U.K. seem to charge a flat 40-50 for fixing
    even simple problems !!

I thought my mouse was malfunctioning so right went out and bought a
Naska (sp?) mouse for 35 ($70). Imagine how peeved I was when
I discovered I still had the problem !!

I'm having to move the pointer around with the Amiga/Arrow keys.. :-(

    Okay,
This is a fairly common problem, easily fixed. I need to know the
    following:
Specifically which direction is the mouse NOT working.
What REV motherboard do you have?

If you have a REV 6 motherboard (regardless of sub-rev) then you have
probably blown the F1 fuse (0K resistor) or you might have a shorted
cap (I forget the number). Let me know the direction and I'll tell you
what to look for. (This will most certainly void your warranty if you
    have one left!)
