4506.0. "Wierd Problems" by HKFINN::MACDONALD (VAXELN - Realtime Software Pubs) Sun Feb 10 1991 13:40
I have a very unusual problem with my 2000. Icons seem to be getting
trashed for no apparent reason. In some cases, like with Trashcan.info,
I copy the icon over from a virgin Workbench disk. It appears on my
hard drive, but when I click on it, a portion of it turns white. In
other cases, although the .info files exist for programs, they do not
display in the window. Programs seem to run okay from CLI, but not
through the icons.
To add more mystery, I loaded PPage onto my system yesterday. I clicked
on the icon and immediately received an Error 121. I tried running it
from CLI, and same problem. Then I copied both the program file and the
icon over to RAM: from the hard drive, and was able to run it
successfully from there.
Some programs that I try to run are giving me "Not an object file"
error, but not all the time.
Any idea what is happening here? This is a fairly new machine (Rev.
6.2) with an ASDG 2 Mbyte RAM board by Micron, a GVP Impact 2000-HD
controller with a Quantum 40S drive, and A2620 (problem exists even
with the 2620 out of the loop).
Anyone know if there are any incompatability problems with the 6.2
board and the devices I listed above?
The dealer was having a problem trashing floppies when he added the
second floppy to the system. Any chance that the motherboard is bad? I
believe the floppy controller is part of the motherboard.

4506.2 | CHECK CHIP MEM and EXPANSION MEM | SDOGUS::WILLIAMS | TOPGUN | Thu Feb 14 1991 15:34 | 8 |
| You may have bad chip memory.
Also you might check to see what kind of memory is on the memory
expansion board. I have seen some memory boards expanded where static
columns are mixed with non-SC chips and this is NOT GOOD! Try removing
the memory board and see what you get.
