| The 25 pin side should be in the manual for the 2090 and the 50 pin side can be
found in a SCSI spec (online copies are at wjg::rz$specs:).

How about the 25 pin to TZK50 cable (Centronics style I believe)? Any
info or docs for it?

You can go to any computer store and buy a "MAC SCSI" cable that has 25 pin
on one side and centronics on the other. Then in an electronics shop, you can
get a crimp-on centronics to 50 ribbon cable connector.

| I'm not sure this is what .2 wanted. I think he just wants the
same type of cable as .0. DB25 at one end and 50 pin centronics
at the other. This is what I bought to hook up my TK50. $35 at
System Eyes. All the mac stores have them as well.

| Hi,
As a wee aside, I just want to verify that all the grounds on the 50
pin side, may be connected together. Probably a silly question, but my
technical skills are best described a 'laughable' and I don't
particularly want to kiss my SCSI goodbye.

Steve,
does this mean that you have a *working* TK50Z on your machine?

| Hi,
re -.2 I wish!. Just a query as I want to remove the noisy ST277N to
a separate box and I need to make up an extension cable. If I knew how
to get a cheap TK50Z, I'ld sell the goldfish!
re -.1 Thanks, I shall have a look tonight to see if I dare brve the
soldering iron!

Yes I want to try to hook up a TK50Z to my SupraWordsync controller.
Steve McAfee - does the TK50Z work OK on your Amiga? What controller?
What software would work BTNtape or Wandel's tape-handler?

4491.10 | | BARD::mcafee | Steve McAfee | Thu Feb 07 1991 15:44 | 14 |
| There is an earlier note on this somewhere. I have an Amiga 3000.
There is a piece of software that comes with AmigaDOS 2.0 called
BRU (Backup-Restore Utility). Other than changing one file (S:brutab)
to specify the correct SCSI device number this worked right out
of the box! I haven't bothered to look into a tape device since
bru does all I need and seems to issue scsi-direct commands by
itself. This is using the scsi.device which is builtin to the
A3000, but I believe it is functionally similar to the A2091.
I would not recommend "buying" a TK50Z at all (mine's a loaner).
If I were to buy one, I'd go for one compatible with CBM's
UNIX SVR4 distribution media (just in case :-)).

4491.11 | BRING ON V2.0! | BAUDIN::LAWSON | | Thu Feb 07 1991 16:09 | 4 |
| I think that this means that we wait for v2.0 to hit the streets. I've
got a 2091, so It would be worthwhile to buy v2.0 just to get the BRU.

I wouldn't buy a TK50 either - I have one at home on a DECstation I am
playing with and wanted to try it out. Can't afford a QIC tape yet.
re: .11
Yeh, I've been waiting since last year for V2.0...

I gather from the above that you're in the UK ?
This may be of limited use to you, but I'll post it anyway.
A while ago I filled out a card from the back of a magazine - and I
*_REALLY_* FILLED IT OUT ! Stuff keeps coming through the mail box,
here's one from a few days ago that seems relevant:-
TULIN Corp.
2156H O'Toole Ave.,
San Jose, CA 95131
408-432-9025
....among other things (external scsi tapes and disks, cabs,
power supplies, etc.)
O CABLES AND MISCELLANEOUS
TLSCSI $18 25-50PIN External SCSI Cable
TLSCSIC $19 50-50 pin External SCSI Daisy Chain Cable
TLSCSII $20 50 to 2-50pin Internal 1 Drive SCSI Cable
TLSCSII2 $20 2-50 to 2-50 pin Internal 2 Drive SCSI Cable
TLT100 $18 External SCSI Terminator
Usual disclaimer, I am in no way connected with these folks -
beyond being a recipient of their leaflets. I havn't (yet) dealt with
them either.

| Hi,
re -.1
Thanks for the info, but I've gone and sent off to diamond for the
lead. My scsi has all the important stuff on it and it's not currently
connected!
Does anyone know if RZ series drives are useable on the Ami?
Cheers, dave

| RZ22 and RZ23 drives appear to be working for most, but the larger RZ5x
drives apparently work with some controllers and not others. I've been
unable to get RZ55 or RZ57 drives to operate on my HardFrame.
