4485.0. "monitors" by WJG::GUINEAU (the number 42 comes to mind) Mon Feb 04 1991 09:39

I'm in the market for a multisync.

I had originally planned on getting a Mitsubishi Diamond Scan.

I've since heard that the Seiko multisync is much better. I think it's
model 1440.

It uses the Sony Trinitron tube and has a dot pitch of .26

I've never seen one, but would like comments on it...

does it have video in?

John, in case you aren't aware, the Seiko 1440 only syncs for
frequencies from 31.5-40 KHz. I got this data from a Seiko customer
service rep over the phone. Therefore, it requires a flicker fixer. I
have seen Creative Computers advertise this model as working with all
Amigas, but I don't see how that's possible.

re .-1,.-2

Thanks forthe info.

It was the 1450 I was after since it's a full Multisync. I do have a
flicker fixer but want to make sure this monitor is versatile enough to
handle whatever I do in the future.

John, if you do purchase the Seiko would you give us a review? My next
purchase is going to be a flicker fixer or A2320 and I have been
thinking about which multisync to get. Anyone have a 1950? Any
    comments on it?

I have been using an TAXAN 440+ multisync monitor for almost 2 years
    now with no problems whatsoever.

It handles a wide range of frequences (15-38 Khz I think) and at the
moment it is hooked up to the Standard Video Output on my A500. When my
A3000 finally arrives I'll hook it up to the output of the VDE (eqiv of
a flicker fixer). I've tried this combination with the store's demo
    3000 and could'nt fault it.

It has more adjustments on it than you shake a stick at (around 30) so
positioning your screen the way that you like it is no problem.

John, according to the Seiko rep the 1450 scans from 31.5-50KHz. So it
is not "true" multisync. I was very close to purchasing a 1440 until I
talked to the rep and discovered that neither model would work on the
    basic Amiga.

I believe that the Software Shop in Worcester sells the Seiko multisynyc.

Two or three years ago when I shopping for a Monitor visited the Software
Shop and persuaded Moe to hook the Seiko he has connected to his clone
to an Amiga with a FlickerFixer. The display was very good, but was
slightly inferior to the Zenith Flatscreen I ended up buying from Moe.
(That is very high praise: the Zenith still has the best display I've
ever seen. It's only drawback is that it is a fixed frequency VGA monitor.)

The Seiko also did a pretty good job of spreading the FlickerFixer output
to fill the display.

Got a Seiko CM 1450 last night. Here's my first impressions:

	W O W !!!

This has got to be the best looking display I've ever seen. The colors
are vibrant and solid. The 0.25 dot pitch makes even the tinyest details
stand out clear as a bell. The case has a nice styling and is small. Weighs
35 lbs.

specs:

	14" Sony trinitron tube
	0.25mm dot pitch
hortizontal scan range: 31-50khz <=== REQUIRES Flicker Fixer or A2320
	Vertical refresh range: 57-90hz
	max resolution: 1024x768 non-interlaced

Has brightness contrast controls on rignt side.
Has vert size, vert position, horiz size, horiz position on back

With the flicker fixer and the size/postion adjustments and an overscan
workbench, I was able to fill the entire display area with usable space.
Very Nice! I have much more room on the workbench now.

The monitor took a few minutes to warm up (I leave my amiga on all the time
anyway). At first I was at almost full brightness but after warmup, colors
got brighter so I could back it down quite a bit.

I tried every application I could find on my harddisk (lots!) and they all
dealt with the overscan workbench with no problems at all.

The Seiko lists for $999.00. I paid $679.00 at The Software Shop. However,
Moe honored a promise he made to me awhile back to give me a good deal on
a monitor when I bought my A2500 from him last year.

The Flicker Fixer comes with some test images and a progam to set up an
overscan workbench. It just uses the morerows program on a fish disk somewhere.

I have heard there are problems with a "morerow'ed workbench". I haven't
seen any problems yet, but I'll post any I find.

I have had a 1950 for a couple of weeks now. Comments? It's an
excellent multi-sync monitor. Has wide frequency range, very
acceptable dot pitch, adapters for various connectors (I use 9-pin for
flicker-fixer), is rock solid so far. I am quite pleased with it. I
really wanted the new(est) Zenith, but needed a monitor *now* and
was too impatient to wait the 6-8 weeks (shortest I could find) it was
going to take mail-ordering one. Besides, I got the 1950 for over $250
cheaper than the cheapest mailorder Zenith. I like it and do not
regret being impatient. Sorry I don't have specific performance
numbers (I can get them if you want) since the manual's at home and
    I'm, of course, at work.

Can't help with "best price", but C= educational discount price is
$519 (list $799). Taken from the August 31, 1990 Education Purchase

Well, I searched all through the monitor notes. Most are pretty old and
may be out of date. There are 2 good reviews in this topic (Seiko CM 1450 and
CBM 1950). I think I could still use some more help. When considering the
following features.

	o dot pitch

	o scan lines (800, 1000+)

o ability to function in standard amigas and with FF or 3000 VDE.

o ability to use all 3000 screen modes

o color (as opposed to b/w)

	o under $800

o ability to adjust display to fill screen (automatically would
	  be a plus)

o normal composite video in for A/V use.

o enough flexibility and range to meet future systems.

What monitor best fits this?

Thanks!!

4485.19questions from Computer ShopperCIMNET::KYZIVATPaul KyzivatMon Aug 05 1991 23:5236
I decided to make the plunge, so I spent part of the weekend perusing
Computer Shopper. It is definitely a great source if you are looking for
PC stuff, but less helpful for Amiga shoppers. Most of the monitor ads are
less that informative about the capabilities of the various models. Not
a place to learn which multisyncs will be compatible with the Amiga.

After this reading I was left with a number of questions which i *hope*
someone might know the answer to:

1) NEC has both a 3D and a 3DS model, with the 3DS being a bit more
expensive. ($549 & up, vs $559 & up.) What is the difference?

2) I found an AOC CM326: 15-38khz, 14", 1024x768, .29mm dot pitch
for $395. This sounds both suitable and a good price, but who is
AOC? Is there any known experience with this monitor?

3) I have seen reference in this conference to CTX as having a useful
monitor. I have found two models:
   CTX 5468 (super VGA) $320
   CTX 3436 (multifreq) $405
No more info on either. I assume the 3436 would be the right one
   if any is. Right?

4) I was also looking for a Samsung, but again could not find enough
info to select a model. My best guess is the CT4581 @ $399.

5) There were lots of ads for the DiamondScan - almost as many as for NEC.
Price generally around $480-490, except an oddball @ $343! I suspect
this to either be an error or else some other version of the
diamondscan. Is it possible there is a cheaper version than the 1381?

I also discovered at 6pm on Saturday that the computer flea market had been
running in Marlboro that day until 3pm. Oh well - there is always another
coming up.

I have a 13' tv that I think was made by AOC. It was cheaper than
similar products from other companies a few years back, but it has
worked fine. I think it is Korean made and I wouldn't give it great
marks for quality, but interestingly, it responds to the remote
control from a very nice Mitsubishi TV that I have. So AOC is
sharing at least some parts with a Japanese company that makes
good stuff. I wouldn't buy one without looking at the picture quality
first though.

A time ago, when Commo first released the A2500, they bundled
a DTP package with the A2500, a flickerfixer,an AOC multisync
	monitor and a NEC SilentWriter.

These monitors aren't bad, though I've seen better ones.

Speaking of AOC. Does someone know the AOC model CM-312 ?
Is it a multisync or just a VGA monitor. I could get hold of
one for free, so if it's the old multisync model I'd be very happy
'cause at the moment I do not indend to buy a FF.

	Thanks

OK, its been a while - I hope you're still happy with it.

Question:	Is this the same monitor that the M*c
community is sold under the name "Gold Star 1450" ? They rave about
it and I was wondering if it might be more freely available (cheaper)
through M*c outlets. I know, it could also be more expen$ive.

Yes, I'm still very pleased with this monitor!

The Seiko CM-1450 coupled with a Flicker Fixer (required for the 1450)
and WB 2.0 makes a real professional display...

Try asking in the MACINTOSH conference about the Mac marketed version...

Having dealt directly with Gold Star (Korea) in a previous life, I'm
fairly certain that they are not the same monitor.
