| I don't have time to do a review right now, but here are a few
observations from my brief exposure to the program to date.
X-CAD is a fairly powerful 2-D drafting tool with most, if not all, of
the features needed to do serious design work. It is very fast in
zoom. pan, and re-draws, muc, much faster than Aegis Draw, for example.
Most of the complexity of the program is not hidden by the user
interface, which means the learning curve is steep. The is a program
for designing custom menu systems for your particular application. One
example of a custom menu is provided. No predefined symbol libraries
are provided. There is an on-line help facility, but the help doc file
(XCDOC) was missing from my distribution disks.
So far it looks like it does essentially what autocad does.
I'm pleased that there finally seems to be a professional quality
design tool for the Amiga.
As I do more with it I'll post results here.
Really now, am I the only one out here who has this package?
Regards,
John

| I am thinking about buying XCAD Pro due to the fact that there is
a new dealer started up who are advertising the package for 149.99
pounds.
Before I buy I have a question if anybody out there can help me.
Can XCAD read and write other CAD formats e.g. IGES,UGII,AUTOCAD etc?
I phoned the dealer who informed me that he was sold out of the
package until the middle of next week and he would have to look up
the manuals.
The address of the dealer for those who are interested is
AMIGA DIRECT
4 WHITTON ROAD
TWICKENHAM
MIDDLESEX TW1 1BJ
ENGLAND
TEL: 081-891-6704
There is a 10 pound annual membership fee but this is more than
offset be the discounts they are offering. I have just received
a CUMANA 354 DISK DRIVE for 49.99.

Bill

| re.: .3,
Sorry for the long delay in getting to the question on XCAD file
compatibility.
from the manual:
"...XCAD Professional can read and write drawing files in Autocad
DXF format."
"...a 100% accurate conversion cannot always be made due to basic
differences between entities and the (sic) attributes."
Following this is a table showing the relationships between DXF and
XCAD entities and "translation limitations."
If anyone's really interested, I'll send out a copy of the pertinent
manual pages.
Regards,
John
p.s. any other XCAD questions, I have the manual at work today...
