Commodore - New multimedia machine tries to blend best of computer, TV
{The Wall Street Journal, 14-Jan-91, p. B6}
At the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas, Commodore displayed the first
fruits of its effort to create a multimedia machine. The $999 "CDTV" player
is the size of a regular CD player. It contains an Amiga computer and a device
that can play compact audio disks or display on a TV screen the images and
data stored on a CD. The unit is controlled, not by a keyboard, but by a
remote, hand-held device that works like a TV channel changer. Initially,
Commodore has line up some 30 software titles for the machine, ranging in
price from $30 to $100. These include versions of popular reference works such
as the Guiness Book of Records as well as educational games from the software
arms of Disney and LucasFilm.
