4393.1 | DEC Tape support | ELWOOD::PETERS | | Thu Jan 03 1991 13:20 | 11 |

There is software available that will control a DEC TZK10 SCSI
tapedrive. I have used the software to create TAR format tapes that ULTRIX
can read and write. There is also VMS software avaibale to handle TAR tapes.
I'm working on changes to the tape software to support TZK30/TZK50,
TLZ04 ( DAT ), and 8mm exabyte drives. I expect to have something working in
a couple of weeks.

| There isn't any software that allows VMS to read Amiga floppies or Amiga to read
ODS-II floppies. However, There is software on the Amiga that can read/write
MS-DOS floppies (720K - 3 " floppies) and there is software (Soft-PC) that
reads and writes MS-DOS floppies on a VAXstation with a (?) drive. Sorry forget
which floppy is the one that works...
Most of the newest SCSI device controllers and drivers for the Amiga will be
to use the RZ hard drives - see several notes about this in the file. Also, I
believe that one person has gotten a TKZ50 to work.

| Oops - note collision -
I'll also take this opportunity to request that BOMBE update its DECnet node
database - I am posting from CLOVAX (34.172) or CLO (34.661) as the cluster
alias.

Does this mean it is not possible to write an driver on a VAX for
Amiga disks (perhaps because of the one sector per track design)
or no one has written one yet?
.*:
Any pointers to the s/w?
Cheers,

I would think it's possible since they did it for the MSDOS disks, however
the low level support required might be buried in the controller's ROM
and not accessable from "driver level". Then again the port driver might do
it all.

| Further to .2:
SoftPC purports to read and write IBM PC format disks, but this only
extends to 1.44MB disks. Support for 720K floppies is read-only.
I assume that the h/w on the Amiga can only run to the low-density
disks.
