4375.0. "can't unpack TREK from FF409" by FSCORE::KAYE (where's my Kama Sutra pop-up book for zero-g) Thu Dec 20 1990 21:26

I unpacked FF409 into hd1:Games. It created hd1:Games/Trek...

I can't unpack it. I click the Unpack Game or Data icons (after
fixing the path to xicon), but i get a system requestor to
mount drive HD1. If i cancel twice it says 'can't find
HD1:GAMES/TREK/UNPACKSTGAME', but a directory of HD1:GAMES/TREK
shows it to be there. What am i missing?

The game wasn't set up to run on a hard-disk, the way it came. Can't
comment on why your path didn't work but...'UNPACKSTGAME' is a script
file. Read it to see how it works. It unpacks tobtrek1.lzh, routing
files thru RAM:trek. It copies all wanted WorkBench files to RAM then
recopies all of RAM back to DF1 and renames it 'STGAME'. Then tells you
to 'UNPACKSTDATA' which un-lharcs tobtrek2.lzh to DF1 and renames it to
'STDATA'. Then you need to reboot 'STGAME' from df0 while STDATA is in
DF1. All the startup-sequence is activated from DF0 thereafter as are
c: l: libs: etc. To put this on a hard drive requires the usual
screwing around with assigns, and i haven't been able to run it with
the icons. CLI useage is accomplished by .. assign s: Disk:s .. assign c:
    disk:c .. assign fonts: disk:fonts .. cd disk: .. execute
s/startup-sequence .. and it plays ! asking you from a bluestripe
overlay of the workbench screen if you want german docs, oh yes it does
a 'patchNTSC' etc..read the s/startup-seq file.. and moves all the
STDATA diskette to RAM: if you have the memory space. I've gone this
far and played up to where the message says 'new orders from starfleet
sir' and when I click on the 'Communications' hotspot, I guru. the
'pause' hotspot works but that's all. All my files are on hard-drive
with a 2090A controller. The prebuilt execute files use the 'quiet'
option and I see that note 4334 mentions a problem with this. I'll try
to unquiet the transfers and see what happens. Anyway, you can unpack
the files yourself with lharc, read 'UNPACKSTGAME' to see prebuilt
    instructions.

F'what it's worth, I made a little script file that does the patchNTSC,
assigns STDATA: to the trek directory on my hard disk, and runs the
game. I used iconmaster to create an icon for it. It works just fine.
The graphics are nice, the sound is nice, but it doesn't really grab me.
I keep it around to annoy PC owners 'cause of the nice digitized sound.

I had the files in the wrong sub-directory that caused the guru. Made a
script using the 'click me to run' icon that came with the unpack
script, and it all runs. Don't really find it much of a game though,
just too much clicking around to get anything done, so it's gone !!
