The December 1990 issue of Computer Graphics World has an interesting article how an Amiga 2500 was used to create a multi-media presentation that aided Atlanta in capturing the 1986 summer olympics.

CNN did a behind the scenes report on how it was done. Amazing stuff, even showed the rack holding the control gear, with the "commercially available personal computer that has a multitasking operating system" that controlled it all. The quote is probably wrong, but that's the best I remember of it, only saw it once. It looked like a 2000 with the 5.25" bay empty. Couldn't read the label. Didn't see anybody using an Amiga, just saw it as a device controller. It sounded like other cities might be interested in how Atlanta did it, I can see why the olympic committee was impressed. Great example of a multimedia presentation, with the emphasis on the interactive user interface. Dave

The latest issue of Computer Graphics also has this covered under the Applications Section of the mag. It includes info on the people that programmed the software. As typical of Computer Graphics they held out as long as they could before mentioning the Amiga, but once they did it was easy to see that the Amiga truely did make it possible. To think an article like this when they did not even give the Amiga honorable mention in their issue on Multi-Media. CNN also did a short on the Alanta Selection. did not mention the Amiga, but gave a brief glance of it.(probably by mistake) bill

The people from Blue Ribbon Bakery Now called Blue Ribbon Soundworks did a lot of the work. They produce the Bars & Pipes music sequencer and I'm pretty sure they do Who What Where When (?) the calendar/organizer software. I have Bars & Pipes which makes great use of multitasking. They released a new add on package aimed at incorporating sound with multimedia presentations. They say they used this stuff extensively with the olympic committee presentation. Dave |
