4337.0. "AMiga 2000/2088 bridge board questions" by MUSKIE::GAINES () Fri Dec 07 1990 12:37

	I have a 2088 bridge board in my AMiga 2000. I'm not
very knowledgeable about the IBM side of things...

In the recent DAK magazine I saw an offer for an external
CD ROM drive with oddles of software included. Such dictionary,
encyclopedia, Atlas etc... The price was 499 for an internal
drive and 699 for the external with all the software.

I thought this would be nice, especially sine I have young
one in school. The only hitch is my current knowledge of
	The 2088 bridge board.

DAK quoted the CD ROM plus software required an IBM PC/Clone
and a graphics monitor to view pictures, preferably VGA. Also
A SCSI controller is needed I suppose.

I have a 40 MB hard disk on the IBM side and A 40 MB on the
AMIGA side. Actually one of the disks is a 40 MB hard card.
Will the 2088 support this CD ROM? Will I need to purchase
additional hardware to interface the CD ROM? Will I need to
purchase anything else meet the VGA criteria? Iam currenly
using my 1084 monitor, but plan to switch to my multi-Sync,
	will this be a problem?

I don't currently have mouse control of the IBM, What do
I need to purchase to get this ability? I recall seeing some
software, Which I have, I believe its called LOGIC mouse... Do
I use this possibly in conjunction with a serial port mouse?

I would really like to have the CD Rom disk, But if I buy it
I dont want it to be a hassle for the kids to set up. Please
	provide your recommendations.

First if you do not have Janus version 2.0 I would recomend it. It
will allow you to support the Amiga mouse on the PC side. Emulates a
microsoft mouse I think. Other than that you will need a VGA adapter
for the PC side the DAK software needs this for the graphics. Also
640K of memory, the CD-ROM controller is included in the package. This
is where the problem comes in. With the Bridge board in slot 4 you will
have three slots for expansion. You need 1 for the memory expansion, 2
for the VGA card, and 3 for the CDROM controller. Your hard disk is
left out in the cold. You could move the drive to the Amiga side and
use MAKEAB to create a PC disk served by the Amiga for this you will need
Janus 2.0. I use it this way and it is fully supported and bootable by
    the PC BIOS.

All yeah you will need a VGA compatable monitor to go with the VGA
card. Also a 4MHz PC-XT the speed will be dismally slow.

If we could find out if the BSR CD-ROM is SCSI and compatible with a
Amiga SCSI controller perhaps we can get at the thing with Amiga
    Vision.

Sorry to be a wet blanket. I have been looking at the ad for the last
couple of months, but I need to wait for my kids to grow up a little
before I can convince my wife we need an encyclopedia on the computer.
Maybe I can find a 650MB recipe disk.
