4324.0. "590 ramchips type/number help please" by UFHIS::JMASLEN (The wheels fallen off your day yet?!) Mon Dec 03 1990 05:23

    Hi Folks!
A question, my new 590HD will take a further 2MB of ram chips, low
heat, 80ns, 234K * 4.............so the question is what TYPE or NUMBER
do they have have on them please?

The local dealer here in Germany wants 30DM per chip which is way
overpriced........I can get them via a chip wholesaler if I know
    EXACTLY what they are.

Many thanks from a new AMI 500 user!

Actually, the A590 wants 4x256K CMOS DRAM chips in the 80-120ns range.
(I'd suggest getting all the same speed -- Murphy is my co-pilot. 8^)
Several manufacturers produce these under a variety of numbers. The
chips cost US $10-12, depending on where you go.

The A590 uses a jumper to indicate one of four configurations:
     "Amnesia"	No memory installed.
512KB	4 chips installed in the designated sockets. ( 4)
1MB	The above, plus 4 more chips in designated sockets.	( 8)
2MB	The above, plus 8 more chips in the remaining sockets.	(16)

I thought I saw an advert for 256Kx4 DRAM for about US $6.50 per chip
in the latest Amiga World or BYTE (can't remember now).

If anyone is interested I'll look tonight and post name and phone of
    the dealer offering this price.

4324.3check out surplus supliers and computer fairs RGB::ROSEMon Dec 03 1990 13:023
You can often find better prices in computer fairs or from surplus
supliers. I got mine at a computer fair in Marlboro for $5. They worked in
my A590 without incident.

The A590 uses the same RAM chips as the A2091. I'm pretty sure these
were discussed in this conference several months back...

    For anyone else interested!
I eventually bought SIEMENS (West Germany) 514256, 70ns chips. Cost
ended up at around DM200 for 2MB. No problems so far........
