4320.0. "Need controller and memory replacement" by GOBAMA::WILSONTL (Lead Trumpet (Read that...LEED!)) Fri Nov 30 1990 14:03

    Now that I plan on a Bodega Bay kit for A500, I will have to sell my
    MINIMEGS with 1 MB of memory and my Escort harddrive controller that
    plygs into the expander bus. I don't, however, want to eliminate my
    ST277 disk that hangs off the controller.

    Since I don't know all that much about the various SCSI environs,
    I'm not sure whether I can purchase an internal A2000-type controller
    and still plug my ST277 into it. Is an ST277 the same, no matter
    what the controller? Anyone with any better ideas?

4320.1If drive is ST277NARRODS::GOLDSTEINSteve G DTN: 847-5415Fri Nov 30 1990 16:5117

    IF the drive is an ST277N then it's a SCSI type drive ...

    About controllers..I don't know about the Escort but if it uses the
    RigidDiskBlock then if you get another controller which follows the
    RigidDiskBlock rules then you should have no problem..BUT

    eg. I had a drive formated on a HardFrame and when I took the drive
    to a friends machine, which had a 2091 the only way I could see it was
    by booting a floppy disk first..
    I didn't try changing anything by using the 2091 toolbox and I just
    might have seen the drive on boot without a floppy.

    The best thing would be to BAVCKUP the Software and format the drive on
    the New Controller...

4320.2How about JelloDiskBlock?GOBAMA::WILSONTLLead Trumpet (Read that...LEED!)Fri Nov 30 1990 17:053
    It is an ST277N. As for RigidDiskBlock, you've got me there. I don't
    what that is. I do not boot the hardisk directly. I must always boot
    a DF0 disk. I DO plan to back it up first.

    the RigidDiskBlock is just the name CBM came up with for the boot
    info stored at the start of your autobooting harddisk. That way
    you don't need a boot floppy or even a mountlist. The 1.3 ROM
    knows how to boot the disk based on the info in the RDB.
