| I've had one for a while now (a year?) and it's OK *except* that once it's well
warmed up I have a problem with it dialing out- it gets "hung" part way through.
I can't guarantee that there isn't something funky about the phone wiring, since
I'm in an old house, using an extension that my father-in-law wired years ago,
but it would seem more likely to be the modem. I never had a problem with my
previous (1200 baud) modem.

I bought one of these modems. They are NOT completely Hayes
compatible. The real behaviour difference is some funniness
in how software works with modems to answer the phone.
(For dialup to Unix or Amiga machines with various software).
I have several packages that will work with a real Hayes modem,
and won't work to answer the phone (or maybe will answer only
once) with the Packard Bell. Buyer Beware!
Otherwise, the modem works like a charm.
