| I don't feel that their is any chance of damaging your drives. I cannot
see it as a cost effective way to store data considering the price of
HD floppies. If you format it on the Amiga you end up with 880k of
storage capacity, you are actually paying for disk space you won't be
able to use. If you get one of the HD drives for the Amiga you will
have the benifit of storage, but then can only use them with that drive.
You can also format the HD disks down to 720k using crossdos on the
Amiga, and then you have the ability to move data between a Decstation
(ibm compatable),and the Amiga. However you cannot read this
configuration on a Decstation unless you put a tab over the HD
indicator hole. I keep a few 2S/2D disks in the office formated at 720k
for taking work back, and forth. I also have several boxs of RX23Ks here
at work but avoid using them if possible because I feel it is
wastefull. In a pinch I have used the Rx's and there is no problem. I
would imagine that the media is actually better on these disks. The
problem arises when someone decides to punch a HD hole in a DS/DD disk
to save money,or use SS/SD disks as DS/DD disks. The system only knows
what it has the ability to sense in regard to physical media. So for
me I use HD when I store data here, and DS/dd when I transport data
home. This works best because the Decstation will read a DS/DD disk
formated to 720k with no hassels, while you have to cover the Hd hole
if you want to use the 2.0meg formatted down. If you only use them at
the Amiga end this would not matter.
