4310.0. "A1500 for the A500" by ARRODS::GOLDSTEIN (Steve G DTN: 847-5415) Mon Nov 26 1990 10:58

I was at the Commordore Computer Show which was on the 16,17 and 18
 November..

I saw the A1500 in the flesh... It alot better than the pictures show.

It also seems that all the version out (by Checkmate Digital System) was a
prototype and they have now been told to stop selling them..

A new company called A1500 (who has the original designer Mick Roots) has been
setup for distrubition and sales...

The case has a 2-slot 86-pin adaptor which plugs in to the expansion slot then
the A590 can be slotted into the adaptor board..
There is room in the case for 2*3.5" floppies 1*3.5" HardDisk and a peco fan
to cool it all.

There is room for a Microway FlickerFixer (using the DEB2000 board)
Then there is the add on case (which was not on display)

How many people would be interested in putting their A500 in to a new case ?

Mail me if you are interested and I try to get a discount if enough people
are interrested..??!!

amiga world has had adds for an addon that gives the 500 2000
compatability. This unit is similar too the ones that were offered for
the 1000's several years back. The name slips my mind it is put out bu
Bogota Bay????. I think it offers more than the above setup.

I'm buying one as soon as I can afford it. It looks like the best
compromise between a 2000 and my pocketbook.

A1500 or A5000? There's a picture of an "Amiga 1500" in the December
issue of _Amiga Format_ (UK, but available at Memory Location in MA).
It looks like an A2000, not an add-on for the A500.

I was in our local trade store in England(Macro) on Sunday and they had a 1500
sitting there!! Available to buy off the shelf.

Unfortunately, it was not booted, but it looks quite neat.

Did you get any info on it Greg ?? Exactly what expansion slots it has inside ?
Is it really just a re-badged 2000 ?? Will they sell it without the 1084 ??

4310.61 topic 2 products ?MEALA::COLLINSSTEVEWed Nov 28 1990 08:0724

There seems to be a bit of confusion here , from what I can see people
are talking about two seperate products .

There is an A1500 (cut down 2000 lookalike machine) released in UK by
Commodore. I've seen some skimpy info in the latest magazines but don't
have it to hand .I don't think this is being released in the states.

The second product is an expansion system for the A500 , it's not made
by commodore and it just repackages the 500 with a seperate keyboard
and gives you some slots etc. It doesn't look like a 2000.

I think it's a shame that commodore didn't/couldn't copyright the whole
A???? series of numbers for their products as confusion like this is
bound to increase as we have more and more 3rd party vendors using
    numbers like this .
Another example is solid state leisure's accelerator called A5000 ,
I find this kind of think very presumptious on the part of these 3rd
    party vendors.
