| I always liked Dynamic Studio because it has a drum machine built in..
It does everything I want

| I've never used the Kawai, but I used Deluxe Music Construction Set
on my Yamaha DX7 quite happily when I first got my Amiga. It isn't
too good at recording input in real time, but you can create music
using the traditional score format, and play it on your instrument.
I am now using Dr. T's KCS and Copyist, but they're pretty expensive.

There should be enough stuff on the net to keep you going for a while.
Try the Demo versions of music-X and bars-n-pipes off the net , they
have the save option disabled , but are very usefull for trying out the
the programs. I bought the fully fleged version of music-x as a result
of using this demo , I really like it .
Also try the latest version of MED (2.13 I think) it's an excellent
PD program , there are are a number of soundtracker modules or songs
on the net that you can use with MED. I like the ability to use amiga
samples with midi instruments as it broadens your sonic capabilities
and makes the music you produce sound more interesting.
I've been experimenting lately with the MED songs , replacing some
of the amiga samples with instruments from my K1 and DX100 it's great
fun. If you need specific pointers for any of these programs let me
know and I'll root out their location , but you should be able to find
them in the usuall places (TAPE:: etc..).

4303.4 | so far... | FSCORE::KAYE | where's my Kama Sutra pop-up book for zero-g | Mon Nov 26 1990 13:02 | 10 |
| I got MED 2.13. I'm having trouble understanding how to get rolling
(any help appreciated). Can you point me to some files MED can use,
and how to use them and i'm sure i'll get the hang of it? I tried
playing a song last nite and when the dust settled both of my hard
drives were corrupt! I'll attempt to recover and restore tonite.
I'm also building the MIDI interface and some cables, hopefully finish
for the weekend.

Hi Mark
you'll find 5 files at wjg::amiga:st-songs*.lzh . Each of them when
decommpressed will yield about 7-10 sound tracker modules .
(modules are the same as songs but not only do they contain the song
data they also contain the samples used in the song).
When these files are decompressed just run Med select the module
you want to play , select "load" then "module" and first the song and
then the samples should be loaded. Then you can go to the play menu and
select "start song".
You'll find that a couple of the modules don't load .I think this is
because they were written with a version of sound Tracker not
compatible with Med. But the vast majority of them are playable.

4303.6 | Kawai K1-II, too | TLE::TLET8::ASHFORTH | | Thu Nov 29 1990 15:20 | 9 |
| Gee, looks like Kawai's pretty popular with Amigans!
If you want to experiment with MIDI and your synth, I would suggest going with a
sequencer. I fretted and gnashed my teeth with transcribing into DMCS until I
got a synth and sequencer program. It will serve as a "digital recorder" with
editing capabilities and provide a pathway to transcription programs should you
wish to print what you play/compose. It seems that all the "big guns" in
sequencing are bringing out entry-level sequencers (with quite a bit of power!)
for under $100 list.
