4299.0. "Sockets for AmigaDOS?" by ACOSTA::MIANO (John - NY Retail Banking Resource Cntr) Wed Nov 21 1990 17:32

As pointed out in 4297 my privous posting of this inquiry
went to the bit bucket....sorry if you have seen it before.

Does anyone know of a socket programming interface for the
Amiga? I would like to do some development work using sockets for
interprocess communication (same system no network).

I don't think there is a socket library (yet!) but there is a package
called IPC (InterProcess Communication) on fish 290 (I think).

Also, have you looked into messages or are you particularly restricted to
a socket-like interface?

write a socket library.. I'm sure that would make lots of people happy!

Yeh, I need to do something the is transportable to the third lowest
operating system on earth ( Messy Dos and OS/2 being the only things
lower than a eunuch.).

I was afraid some wise guy might say that.

It's not as bad as it sounds. You could write routines that have the
same function interface as the socket stuff which do the message
stuff for amiga and whatever for msdos (pray? ;-) )
