Can anyone suggest the best book/assemmbler combination for someone with no 'real' programming experience wishing to learn machine code programming on the amiga. So far I have saw at least 10 books on the subject and about 4 assemmblers and was wondering what were the best ones. Thanks in advance, Geo.

I can't reconmend a good assembler book for the beginner as I was able to code before buying an amiga but as far as assemblers go you can't pass up DEVPAC II. It has an editor, assembler and debugger all built into one package. The editor is OK,the assembler fairly swift and the debugger excellent for finding those faults. If you don't like the editor - there is a CLI version which means that you can use your fav. editor (Cygnus Ed) and either use AREXX to assemble it or save it to a file and use it that way. Also the book that comes with the program is a handy reference tool as it lists all the op-codes in it. In my opinion I'd rate it about 9/10. (I never give a perfect score). Shaun. Re. -1 Thanks for the advice, I was already thinking about DEVPAC as a possible purchase so it looks like that's the one to go for. Now if I can only find a good book which could guide me through what is certain to be a painful process !!! Geo. |
