4278.0. "AMAS 1000 sound digitizer questions" by NAC::BRANNON (value added) Wed Nov 14 1990 16:20
I've started playing around with sound digitizing using an AMAS 1000
on an Amiga 1000 and have run into two limitations that I hope more
knowledgable noters can help me get around.
Problem #1: The AMAS 1000 software has a file requestor that only knows
about df0:, df1:, and dh0: and defaults to df0: when you try to save a
sound sample. I'd like to be able to get to my other disk partitions,
but it looks like a custom file requestor, so the various file requestor
replacements probably won't work (I'll try some tonite).
So I'd like to find a sound editing (or sampling) program that doesn't
have this limitation.
Problem #2: The AMAS 1000 software lets you sample up to 8 banks full
of sound samles. Unfortunately, each bank can only hold a very short
sound sample and there seems to be no way to continue the sound
digiting across the banks. I have a 3mb A1000 so all 8 banks are
available. Any suggestions?
I'm aware of AudioMaster III, but since I'm just getting started its
way too much money to spend on something that I'm not sure will fix
either problem. I'm hoping that something buried away on a fish disk,
somebody's memory, or some home brewed code will solve this.
thanks,
dennis

I can only answer your first question. What version of AMAS have
you got, because the version i've got is V1.32 and the file requestor
shows df0: df1: df2: dh0: dh1: ram: and the program is installed on
dh1: and it default's to there when i want to load something.

| re .1:
I'll check the version number, but it clearly sounds like its older
than yours. This is the first I've heard of newer software being
available for the AMAS.
Any takers on the digitizing longer sound samples problem?
thanks,

re. longer sound samples.
I don't know anything about AMAS so I don't know if banks can be
chained ...
Some other ideas....
Perfect sound ( and some others) let you sample up to the limits
of memory.
There is a PD utility called makesounds some on this net. It lets
you play anything including a range of memory. String short samples
in memory and then load into makesounds.
Sonix will let you trigger instrument samples in succession fairly
seamlessly.
Last but not least .... Rap trick #7. Play your input source at
high speed ( ie. 33 rpm lp at 78 ). Then adjust the playback rate
back down. This assumes you have something like a variable speed
reel to reel or a turntable. You can double the sample time this
way. ( at the cost of fidelity ).
