I can understand that with some programs you may need to do a 'NOFASTMEM'. But why with some programs do I need to disable my external drive (DF2:). What sort of programming no-no has taken place ? Adrian

Most of the cases I've seen where removal of external drives was
requested, it was because the program needed the memory which would
otherwise be allocated to buffers and such for the extra drive. So
it's more a matter of squeezing out the last available memory rather
than poor programming practices.
