| Apparently the file wjg::amiga:wefax.zoo isn't a zoo file.... It is a
compressed zoo file so should be wefax.zoo.Z Unfortunately the version of
compress I have crashes out halfway through, although the resultant zoo file
is readable, it's not complete (only 150000 bytes). Can anyone take this any
further...???

Can you give a brief rundown as to how you make an executable from all
those files? I have SHAR and UNSHAR on my Amiga, but no documentation.
Thanks.

Looks like a chunk of someones VAX DOCUMENT document got stuffed
in the uuencoded file...
Yup, sure enough. It's in the original too... Let's see now...
Gad, looks like the original UUENCODED line is interspersed with the vax
document stuff... surgery required...
well, sorry folks. This one's hosed. We need a new wefax5.uue from the
author...

When you get stuff in the form prog1.uue ... progN.uue, this means if
you append the files you will get something which needs to be uudecoded.
Also notice that each file probably has some junk at the beginning and
end you must delete before you do the append. Uuencoded files contain
ascii characters (hence work well with mailers) and start with a "begin"
in prog1.uue and end with an "end" in progN.uue. So you should KEEP those
two lines when you are editting the pieces.
The "begin" statement names a file name which will be produced and sometimes
this is not valid on the VAX. You may need to change it before uudecoding
if it contains two periods for example. My version of uudecode doesn't
fix this automatically.
Afterwards you may need to run the file through cvtarc to get into the
right format for whatever follows (zoo etc).

I'll upload WEFAX5.UUE again ... hope I still have it!

A simple interface to do what?
|
4257.16 | | DICKNS::MACDONALD | VAXELN - Realtime Software Pubs | Thu Nov 15 1990 11:06 | 13 |
| I received another copy from the author last night. I recreated the
archive using LHARC and uploaded it to TAPE::USER2:[UPLOAD].
The WEFAX program will allow you to demodulate weather fax signals from
various sources on a short-wave receiver. The interface pipes the audio
into the parallel port of the Amiga. Then the software does its thing.
The transmissions are pretty much continuous. Theyinclude machine-drawn
maps, satellite photographs and more. It is a lot of fun!
I have a slightly more sophisticated program and hardware interface by
Advanced Electronic Applications that allows me to copy photos directly
off weather satellites as they pass by. I have uploaded some of these
to TAPE::.
|
4257.17 | | WJG::GUINEAU | | Sun Nov 18 1990 15:21 | 6 |
| so this requires a short wave reciever in addition to the hardware
interface to the amiga?
|
4257.18 | Yes it does. | POLIS::THOMSONA | C'mon, git aff! /The Kelty Clippie | Mon Nov 19 1990 06:45 | 7 |
| Yes it does John. But make sure it receives single side band transmissions.
I built the interface over the weekend and the S/W works as promised, I had
great fun downloading weather pictures, and once I get better at it, I may
load some up to TAPE:: to let you see them....

|
4257.19 | No difference | POLIS::THOMSONA | C'mon, git aff! /The Kelty Clippie | Mon Nov 19 1990 07:39 | 6 |
| Just to save some folks some downloading time, the WEFAX12.LZH is the same
version of the package as WEFAX12.ZOO, which is the one created using the
*.UUE files. So if you have already downloaded it, you don't need to do it
again as you already have the latest version (v 1.2 - 1-Nov-90)

Nope. A scanner probably wouldn't help anyways unless it had a BFO
which most don't. WEFAX transmissions are in SSB mode.
