I'm writting this note and opening this topic for others that are miffed over software compatability issues after hardware upgrades. Also let this note serve as a reference for software that wont run on certain AMIGA configurations. An example is FA/18 runs on my amiga 500 but not on my 2000. My 500 is configured with 1mb, 1.2 kickstart, 1.2 WB., 68000. The 2000 has hard disks, 1.3 kickstart, 2mb, 1.3wb, 68010. The 2000 get a software task held error. I've noticed that the following games are no longer capable of running on my 2000. FA/18, Hybris, Falcon (original). I think this topic will be helpful when purchasing programs etc... How else can you tell if the programs you buy will be compatable with your systems configuration? Most software packages dont usually provide detailed inforamtion. Lets use this topic to track/gather compatability issues. MAG

The original version of Falcon only supported the standard 68000 machines. Mike

Re .0 & F/18 Have you ruled out any hardware problems? F/18 has run on my Amiga(s) with every combination of CPU and Fat Agnus you could dream of. Falcon 1.0 will crash and burn on anything other than a vanilla 68000. The upgrade alows the use of any CPU. Ed.

A year or so back, I had a 68010 CPU installed in my AMIGA 2000 (3MB). There was a slight improvement in performance for some software, but I removed it due to a compatibility problem with some Electronic Arts programs (Financial Cookbook is one I remember). I have often thought I should research the possibility of piggybacking both CPUs and have an external switch to select either one to run with. (Used to do this with OS ROMs for my old ATARI 800) Think is all I have had time to do (4 kids) and so by the time I get a round tuit, I will probably be able to afford a 68020 or 030 board. (maybe: 4 kids remember!) Regards, Murray Steeves Cold Blustery Snowy (Winter Starts NOW!)East Coast Canada |
