4240.0. "How fast is your GVP 030???" by CGOFS::OAKLEY (BCNU2) Thu Nov 01 1990 16:40
In some recent notes concerning speed of converting GIF pictures
several owners of GVP boards have responded with their results.
As an owner of an early GVP without 32 bit RAM or '882 I have only been
able to achieve a 2x rating when using this GIF conversion and as such
have begun to wonder about the actual speeds being acheived with the
various configurations and ages of the '030 boards.
In aid of understanding these variables I ask that the owners of GVP
030 boards attempt to run a set of tests which will quantify the speed
increase under various configurations.
In using Steve Drew's GIF2IFF program with the F18.GIF file on my 28mhz
030 without '882 and no 32-bit ram I had a 2x performance increase. My
board was one of the very early ones (jul89).
Perhaps other owners could try this test in 68000 mode, 68030 mode
without 32-bit ram and then again with 32-bit ram and then post the
results in a reply to this note.
BTW: if anybody else can suggest a more appropriate test please post
your suggest and an indicator as to where to find the files.
thanks
