4222.1 | I don't think it can be did. | TENAYA::MWM | | Wed Oct 24 1990 17:54 | 16 |
| re: I want one that looks like (and plays like) the arcade version.
I'm not sure that's possible. The arcade version was a vector graphics box,
raster graphics have some inherent drawbacks when trying to simulate such
creatures. I've never seen a reasonable implementation of asteroids (or any
similar vector graphics game) for a raster graphics machine.
On the other hand, the Vectrix game machine (now an orphan) was a vector
graphics home game machine, complete with screen. Asteroids was included
with the box, and was the best I've seen outside an arcade. You might try
picking one of those up used (and thus helping to dispel the notion that
the Amiga is "a games machine").
If only so many of my favorite arcade games weren't vector graphics based!

4222.2 | | CLO::COBURN | Growing older, but not up... | Wed Oct 24 1990 18:22 | 8 |
| There was an asteroids game called cosmos or something similar that
looked pretty good as I recall. It should still be on tape.
There are at least 2 other games that are available., but I don't
remember their names. I'll look to see if I can find them.
Just looked and I no longer have the games. Sorry.

Have you seen "Asteriods" (pronounced ASTER-YAWDS) ?
It uses a black/white high-resolution interlaced screen to try to come
close to the original vector graphics. Not a bad game; although there
is the interlace "flicker."
All the shapes are stored on an IFF picture (modifiable with Dpaint,
etc.) and all sound files are IFF format (and replaceable with your
own IFF sounds.)
If you haven't played it and it's not already here, I can try to dig it
up...

| Is that disk in the "recalled" catagory? It seems protected.

| there is an asteroids game included in a recent (at least to the US)
game pack, called something like "Computer Renaissance". It has
asteriods, cenipedes, galaxian, and of course, space invaders.
Has both a classic and a newer version of each game.
Been too busy it play it much, but it looked pretty good.

4222.8 | SpaceKillers | AIAG::WISNER | I lost my soul to the look in your eyes. | Tue Dec 11 1990 17:53 | 6 |
| SpaceKillers is very much like asteroids. It's like a scrolling asteroids
with lots of aliens and stargates and lasers. Asteroid "purists" won't agree.
