| I suggest you get in touch with the CDA converter group about your need. If
it is not available today, perhaps they will be able to provide it without
much trouble.
Also, I have spoken with Perry Kivolowitz of ASDG about CDA and sent him
information on it and DDIF. ASDG has committed to support any spec for
graphics they have the spec for. So far as I can tell they are serious.
Ask them about EPS.
I am not at all sure, but seem to recall ProPage and PageStream DTP
packages supporting EPS. This may include OUTPUT in this format as well
as input.
Beyond this, it may well be possible to use ASDG's TAD (the new Pro version)
to convert IFF files to an intermediate format and use CDA tools to convert
them to EPS.
I would very much like to see mutual support for CDA/DDIF between Digital
and Commodore (and Amiga developers). It would enhance Digital's image as
a supporter of standards and interoperability (EIS listening?) and help
us into markets where we have essensially no presence today (broadcast
production outside of the newsroom).
Enough soapbox, just write letters to Commodore, DTP developers, and
converters. IFF is conceptually very similar to CDA which could easily
be implemented as a FORM type in IFF.......

CONVERT.EXE

The ones I have that I know about are:
CLAZ.EXE Converts .IFF to .PS
CSIX.EXE Converts .IFF to .SIX

4209.3 | $30K difference?

RE .1 > You mention a $30K price difference between VAXcamera and
DigiView. I know VAQXcamera is more expensive, (as is anything
with DEC's name on it) but I think your figures are off a bit. We've
worked pretty closely with the ASO folks on the development of VAX-
camera, and the last info I got was that internal costs were somewhere
around the $10K figure. In additional to a software license, that
figure represented all the hardware which along with the image server
box includes a $1500 Sony Hi-res CCD camera, and a Sony hi-res color
monitor. If you already have a camera and monitor (a VT241 monitor
will work though the image doesn't look as crisp), you could probably
get just the system box and software for considerably less $'s.
Of course, it would be nice to be able to import an IFF file into
DECwrite and...

Gee, I wonder what a $1300 camera would do for my DigiView imaging?!

If you need the names of people to contact regarding VAXcamera, I'd
be pleased to pass them on. Product enhancement continues (though we
no longer provide any direct development resources), and I'm sure
the ASO folks would like any feedback or recommendations which would
help make their product better. And they're always looking for new
and/or different application opportunities inside as well as external
to DEC.
For what it's worth the ASO plant has a four star video
production lab , complete with 68030 driven A2000 of course. I've seen
some of the productions they've done (mostly training/demo stuff)
and it's very impressive. The thing I don't know is if they have done
any VAXcamera/Amiga experiments. It migh be interesting to ask.

| I'm doing work with the ASO video people as we speak. As far as I know,
they have only used the Sony camera with Digiview on the Amiga. I don't
think that they have made any other "connections" with VAXcamera.
I produced the VAXcamera Videotape that is available from the Corporate
Library.
Ed Larkin, who reads this file from time to time, is the guy who runs the
video studio in ASO. He also owns a 3000 with a Targa Board.

Sorry if this is off the thread , but could you upload a sample iff
file from digiview . Maybe one from a magazine so I could compare the
output, as I am thinking of buying it. ?
Have you tried UTOX for eps output, If you are producing the
picture on the amiga, why must you have the eps converter on the VAX.?
.Pete.
What Size resolution does Vax Camera give compared to Digiview though.?

| Well, we would like to be able to get the image into BookReader so that
the image can be viewed on line. I don't think an EPS file will do it.

| No, I don't think EPS would do. I suspect you would have
to convert the image to DDIF.
