4178.0. "Broken = Textcraft + Ram Upgrade" by CURRNT::POWELL (I admit it - I LIKE Vogon poetry!!) Fri Oct 05 1990 20:02

Due mainly to my innexperience with AmigaDos, my questions may
appear rather silly to some. If so, I beg enlightenment.

Prices being what they are, I finally decided to cough up and upgrade
my Amiga to the "full" 1meg. No more switching off of the second drive,
able to load 1meg demos - the works!

Unfortunately, the only casualty in the battle appears to be Textcraft
V1.1 which until the recent past has been little used (it was a freebie
with the computer) but is now becoming indispensable. Among other
problems, the screen corrupts and the mouse pointers fail to appear.

In an attempt to remedy the problems, I copied and cut down a version
of my 1.3 Workbench and transferred the Textcraft programs. No joy.

Is there some way that I can get my beloved Texcraft (stop laughing out
there) working again? Or is there nothing to be done?

    Eternally grateful for any help,
    David.

The NOFASTMEM program that comes with workbench 1.3 will disable your
extra memory while you run textcraft. Double click its ICON, which is
in one of the system, extras, or tools drawers - don't remember which -
before you run textcraft. If this helps, then you can add it to your
startup sequence on the textcraft workbench diskette, so that it gets
executed whenever you boot the textcraft disk.

Re: .0

Another solution that may be more convenient in the long term is
to get a copy of the program named FixHunk (found on fish disks 197
and 36).

The description from Fish disk 197 reads:

FixHunk A program to modify executable files to allow them to
run in external memory. It forces all DATA and BSS hunks
in the file to be loaded into CHIP memory. CODE hunks will
still load into FAST ram if available. New features
include an interactive mode to select where each DATA or
BSS hunk will load into memory, support for overlays,
support for AC BASIC compiled programs, and support for
new hunk types as used by "blink". Version 2.1, binary
only. This is an update to version 1.2a on disk 36.
