| But LZCOMP compresses a single file, right? LHARC will manage and entire
archive...

4167.2 | Don't forget -- LHARC is very new on VMS | KALI::PLOUFF | It came from the... dessert! | Tue Oct 02 1990 17:19 | 11 |
| LZCOMP together with LZDCMP are the VMS equivalent of the Unix program
'compress.' There's a nice version of compress in the Matt Dillon UUCP
package, any version from 1.00 on. The Lempel-Ziv-Welch compression
method used here is also at the heart of the ZOO archiver.
Given that compress and LZCOMP have been around for a few years, and
several versions, but VMS LHARC is only on its second revision or so,
I'd be very wary of speed comparisons. Amiga LHARC has shown
considerable speed improvements in the last couple of releases.

| Also, if you are looking for faster LHARC functionality try LZ -
located at TAPE:: in the UPLOAD directory as LZ091.lzh.
It certainly seems faster that LHARC to me and it hasn't given me any
trouble yet.
NOTE - LZ is compatible with LHARC not LZCOMP.
