I saw it at SIGGRAPH this year. It's definitely all it's advertised
to be! Dual 24 bit framebuffers, (expandable to eight), zillions of video
f/x, and a rendering package thrown in for free. If I didn't have a FlickerFixer
in my video slot, I'd buy one :-) I asked about the 3000 availability, and
got a very vague anwser. (I was led to believe that they are severly back-
ordered...)

4089.2 | no! but check Amiga World | SALEM::LEIMBERGER | | Wed Sep 05 1990 14:05 | 7 |
| The latest Amiga World has an article on the Toaster. They have had one
running in their offices for awhile, according to the article it meets
the hype. The article indicated that it would not be available for the
3000 until the 2000 was in distribution. Also mentioned was the need
for a TBC if you wanted to use more than one video in signal at a time.
I talked to the CBM video rep,and he said it's real nice.

You can use the Toaster if you buy the DEB board, and move the
Flickerfixer to an IBM slot. I can't because my video slot is occupied
by a genlock.

I have a Supergen genlock, and can't use it right now, since my
FlickerFixer doesn't have the genlock option. If I buy the DEB
board, do I still need the genlock option?
Also, I have a A2088 bridgecard installed. Does this preclude
using the DEB board??
(I just called Safe Harbor to find out prices of the genlock
option ($50), and the DEB board ($75) ).

I have heard of the video toaster before, but, exactly what does it do?
How much does it cost? Is it a fram buffer, or ray tracking package?

Pick up the latest (October) issue of Amiga World for a hands on review
of the Toaster.

September is the latest issue I could find of Amiga World, but I
did pick up "Camcorder" October issue and it gave the Video Toaster
an excellent review. The article stated "The Toaster does everything
a network video production department can do:". I getting a A3000
so I have to wait for the Toaster support for it. Maybe it will
even have more trick features to it.
Thanks for the input,
Ray

| Be careful of what you read in Camcorder. I find many misleading,if not
outright incorrect statements when it comes to their articles involving
computers. An example is when they priced a 2000 system in an article,
the configuration info was wrong, and they showed a picture of a 1000.

rave reviews to things that don't work.

4089.10 | Get the video | KALI::PLOUFF | Owns that third brand computer | Thu Nov 14 1991 01:13 | 26 |
| This seems the best topic to use - other Toaster notes are 4152, 4638,
5099, 5130 and probably more.
I just received the NewTek "Revolution" demo tape. It's really well
done, it demonstrates the Toaster to full effect, it has the usual NT
in-jokes, stars Kiki Stockhammer, and includes the Todd Rundgren music
video "Change Myself." Length is 10 minutes total. Best of all, it's
free. Just call 1-800-765-3406, then wait a few weeks. NewTek has
said that they will soon have 50,000 copies of this video circulating.
20,000 of them were passed out at the Siggraph conference.
Hmm, the factual description is too lukewarm. "Revolution" held my
interest through three viewings tonight, and I hate advertising videos.
"Revolution" is well enough done to convince nearly anyone that
professional video graphics and effects can be done for under $10,000.
It's good enough to convince nearly anyone that professional quality
graphics and animation can be done for this price.
Get it.
Wes
P.S. NewTek will also sell you a less glitzy "store demo" tape for
under $10, which includes a technical description and a clip from
"Computer Chronicles." The Penn and Teller video has apparently been
canceled, according to Usenet reports.
