Hmmm, I seem to recall a note that went into exacting details about
each revision of the A2000 motherboard, straight from the designer
himself.
I think the important thing is that you get ANY B2000 motherboard, as
opposed to an early, German-designed A2000 motherboard. (The A and B
designations are arbitrary). The German model (of which few, if any,
were sold in the States) does not have the video slot and cannot be
upgraded beyond 512k of video memory.
I have an early 2000 model that came with a 4.1 motherboard and
has been running pretty much nonstop for over two years.

4078.2 | I'd get it -- if it's a B2000 | MSVAX::BARRETT | I will not instigate revolution | Tue Sep 04 1990 09:20 | 22 |
| Many, including myself, consider the Rev 4x boards better. There
were only 2 known problems in pre Rev 4.5 boards -- The first having to
do with some 3rd party controllers not functioning correctly, and
the 2nd having to do with the 1st keystroke on the keyboard after
a system boot not taking effect (only on some models - when CBM
changed keyboard manufacturer).
Both problems are corrected by the CBM Rev 4.5 upgrade, which any
authorized repair service can perform -- or you can do yourself
since the entire procedure is posted in this file somewhere. I would
not do this unless you actually encounter these problems with
your configuration -- only certain systems had problems and only
in specific hardware configurations. The only people I know that
actually bothered with the upgrade are those that encountered the
controller problem.
There are a multitute of Rev 6.x problems reported however - mostly
dealing with hardware than works fine in the Rev 4 series but doesn't
work correctly or work in combinations (like SupraRAM 2000 w/ certain
disk controllers) in pre Rev6.2.
I'd buy it! You're not at any risk.

4078.3 | sounds good | SALEM::LEIMBERGER | | Tue Sep 04 1990 09:37 | 10 |
| I have an eary 4.x system, and have had no problems in several years. I
looked into it and found many of the rev changes were layout only, and
did not include any functional changes. To get to 6.x I'd have to add
a pullup resistor. I haven't bothered. Some of the problems with 6.x
boards may well be related to the new etch layout, and increased speeds
seen on many of the faster cpu boards. All I know is that my 4.x(4.1)
seems fine with the GVP 40meg,and CBM 2058 8meg board populated to
4meg. I did have a problem when I added the last 2 meg,but that was
fixed by a pal update from GVP.

4078.4 | Thank you | COMICS::HOGGAN | No, I am not kidding !!! | Tue Sep 04 1990 10:14 | 24 |
| Hi,
I would just like to say thanks to those who've replied so quickly, as
I have to 'close the deal' tonight. You have certainly put my mind at
rest over the matter as being new to the Amiga scene I have not a clue
as to what to look for. For the princely(?) sum of 750 I'll get:
A2000 Rev4.0
A2090 HD card with a 20Mb ST506 drive (I plan to add another 20Mb ST506
and rip the 65Mb SCSI drive off the Atari.
2 3.5 Floppies.
1 new psu
Kickstart 1.3 v34.28
This may or may not be a wonderful price, but after three solid months
of my spare time being wasted on an Atari based project being wasted by
a timing problem, I snapped.
I hope that I don't annoy people with the many simple questions that I
shall be asking in the months to come. Still, only 27000 notes articles
to go!
Many tanks,
Dave.

HI,
Does anyone have any recommendations for memory boards for the A2000.
I'm looking for an initial population of 2Mb.. UK prices an advantage.
Cheers, Dave.
