4072.0. "Pro Video Post Demo from Shereff Systems" by CRISTA::CAPRICCIO (Fat: The *Natural* Insulator) Sun Sep 02 1990 02:20

    Shereff Systems has released a working demo of their Pro Video Post
    Character Generator software. The demo centers around newscast graphics
    with a multitude of fades, wipes, peels, etc. The text and graphics are
    stunning but you must meet some hefty memory requirements (see the
    README below). The "working" portion lets you use the full range of
    effects and enter your own text in various fonts and styles. It is a
    two-disk demo located at CRISTA""::AMIGA: as;

4072.3Check out BT too!SDOGUS::WILLIAMSTOPGUNThu Sep 06 1990 11:268
    I've got both Pro Video Gold Post and Broadcast Titler and for shear
    beauty of the characters, Broadcast Titler is by FAR a better package
    (IMHO). Coupled with Video-Effects 3D you have peels, fades, wipes,
    spins, etc. I don't know of anything that one package can do that
    the other can't (except that the characters on BT are EXCEPTIONAL
    when compared to PVGP).

4072.4Couple BT and VE3D?RIPPLE::LUKE_TEThu Sep 06 1990 16:1713
    re .3

    How do you "couple" Broadcast Title and Video-Effects 3D together.
    I have seen demos of both but was always under the impression that
    they were two separate packages. BT did great text with lots of
    transitions including some 3D type effects, and Video-Effects 3D
    took IFF images and brushes and did some very delightful 3D
    manipulation with them. Both packages seemed to take over the whole
    system when they ran (which I always saw as a negative). Did I
    miss something in my demos?

4072.5Don't think it can be doneSALEM::LEIMBERGERFri Sep 07 1990 06:2715
    To the best of my knowledge you cannot do what you wish with these two
    programs. BT will allow you to extrude text,and give that line it's
    own effect,and will allow you to load in a iff pic,but I don't believe
    you can use the video effects,and/or animations from other programs.
    That is the reason I am purchasing Pro Video Post. I'll still use BT
    for titling because of it's support for color text,but want Pro Video
    Post for it's DVE effect such as peeling,zooming etc. As you pointed out
    they will not multitask so I cannot see getting them together in the
    near future. What demo did you see that gave you the impression that
    they (BT,Video-effects 3D)were being used together ? This may be the
    program you want. Remember you can generate screens in BT,and save the
    screen to IFF. Then possibly use it in another program. This ability is
    flawed in that the pic you save is reduced to a 16 color picture. You
    could do better in TV Text Professional.

4072.7Corrupt file in LHWARPed disk 2?KALI::PLOUFFIt came from the... dessert!Fri Sep 07 1990 11:007
    Has anyone downloaded this demo successfully? I've copied it three
    times over the net, brought it home as an LHW file and as a UUENCODEd
    version, but each time the file "MLBBScore" on disk 2 is corrupt.

    Suggestions?

    I'll upload that disk again. I never did try downloading it after
    uploading, so maybe it's trashed, but I've had real good luck with
    zmodem and LHWarp for that matter. Anyways, I'll do it again and if
    that was the only file that was corrupt, would it help to just upload
    it in the interim or does LHWARP bomb out with a CRC error?

    Lemme know,

    lhwarp didn't complain, it was the demo that said the file was corrupt.
    It looked like it's the first file it hits on the second disk.

    I'm using LHWARP 1.31, do I need a newer version? Is Lhwarp 1.39
    available on the enet?

4072.10New Corrected (hopefully) PVPCG-DISK2.LHW at CRISTA""::AMIGA:CRISTA::CAPRICCIOFat: The *Natural* InsulatorFri Sep 07 1990 23:4533
    Re: Mangled MLBBScores

    Your right Wes, that second Lhwarp'ed disk is off; seems like Lhwarp is
    not too reliable without the ignore bitmap option (-m) set. I re-warped
    it and it can now be found at CRISTA""::AMIGA: as:

                            PVPCG-DISK2.LHW   999

    Also, for those who may have already downloaded the first attempt,
    please find:

                            PVP-ERRATA.LZH     70

    which contains the file in question, MLBBScores. It's weird, both
    unscrunched versions (one with -m set, one without) ended up the same
    size according to LIST, but when viewed in NewZap, the corrupt one
    spanned only one sector, but had an end of file of 512, whereas the
    good one spanned 131 sectors with an end of file of 58. Guess I had
    better just stick with LHARC for standard ADOS disks from now on.
    Sorry for any inconvenience.

    Re: -.1

    You shouldn't need a newer version, but version 1.40 is available in the
    usual places including CRISTA""::AMIGA:. Also, when you unpack .LHW's made
    with V1.40 it reports as 1.39; this oddity is explained in the docs
    somewhere.

    Pete

    P.s. If you have any other mangled files from the first attempt, let me
         know and I'll upload them ASAP.
4072.11Put Demo out to VHSSALEM::LEIMBERGERSun Sep 09 1990 10:5517
       I put the Pro Video Post demo out to a VHS tape this weekend. The
    results were very very good. I am planning on picking the program up
    next weekend,and was curious as to how it would look when I transferred
    it over to VHS. I did not put it out to Hi8,or SVHS because we were
    going to visit my wifes sister,and I wanted to try it at their place.
    It was going out to a 26" JVC,and it looked great. Lynda,s sister had
    an exercise show on the cable channel in Concord N.H.,and channel 13 in
    Nashua. This is why I wanted to have her view it. I also Scanned in
    some Grayscale pics off of an exercise poster she had given Lynda. Then
    I did an introductory screen in Dpaint III,and used AmigaVision to add
    them to tape. The mousewait command made it easy. I simply put the wait
    command after the title screen. Then I ran the show,and hit record on
    the VCR. All I had to do was hit the mouse button and off it went.
    She was very impressed by the transistions. I had this sequence
    following the demo. I had tried to use Broadcast titler but it did not
    want to show the grayscale pallette,and I was pressed for time.

I have been trying different picture manipulations,and they are very
impressive. Trouble is without the manual you have to step thru 00-99
one at a time,and use the several options available to see what they
do. but it isn't a bad way to kill time every so often.

    Very impressive demo. There is one catch, though. On my 3 meg model

    partitions take too much space. This puppy really does need a full 3

    wes,
    	I run 5meg. It will be interesting to see if it can perform in a
    five meg machine under working conditions. Of course I don't think the
    program is ment to multitask so after booting a 5meg system,once you
    are into the program you should be fine(I hope).
    	Have you tried any effects yet on your 3meg model 2000 ?

    I think that the only problem I have is with the overall amount of
    memory required by the demo. It's _really_ tight in 3 megabytes of
    RAM. Have only dinked around a little with effects from the control
    panel. Without documentation it's a little difficult to understand.

    Select the function key for picture manipulation,and then a "control A"
    will start the program prompting for a DVE 00-99. Enter one of these,
    and it will prompt you for a option give it a one,or two. (may be more
    I don't know). it will start beeping,and then tell you when it is
    ready. hit return and you will see the effect.hit it a few times,and
    it will toggle between the blank screen,and the effect each time. I
    think a CNTRL A will get you to the point where you can enter another
    effect.

    I don't know if the pics in the demo were scrambled so that they could
    not be copied,or if after you load a pic into Pro Video Post they are
    converted to a special format the program needs to work it's magic.
    	I plan on picking the program this weekend(if it's still there).
    Then I can load a pic save the result,and try viewing it. I do know
    they are standard IFF going in. They may well be compressed,or modified
    in some nature along the way. The people that write this type of stuff
    are savvy enough to do some strange things to get the results they
    want. In Broadcast Titler you can save a pic to iff but you lose the
    320 colors to a page(reduced to 16). Hopefully I'll know soon.

4072.20JDKI pic formatSALEM::LEIMBERGERMon Sep 17 1990 06:409
    re .18
    	The format is JDKI. JDKI uses a proprietary memory packing
    technique that uses less system memory to load a picture. At the same
    time it reatins a structure that will display the picture as quick as
    if it were in memory in it's full bitmapped representation. You
    generate JDKI pics with a utility called "overlay". You do not have to
    employ this utility if you don't want to. All pictures saved from
    within the PVP program are saved in 16 color hi res IFF format.

Does either Broadcast Titler or PVP do scrolling text
(like credits at the end of a movie)?

4072.22YES YES YRSSALEM::LEIMBERGERTue May 21 1991 06:4711
    I own both products,and yes they do. As a point of fact that is one of
    the prime reasons for their exsistance. They also give you the ability
    to "crawl" text. For video titling these products are the best choice.
    The programs are very similar in function an like many others
    have weak, and strong points. I like BroadCast Titler II . Pro Video
    post is very strong in DVE's,but BT is superior in picture quality,and
    Font handling. I don't think there is another program on the Amiga that
    will do Video titling better than these two. BT improved greatly with
    release II, while PVP(sherriff systems) has been busy developing a PC
    version.

RE: .21

Yes PVP does scrolling, I have used Pro Video Post and it does allow you to
scroll text. The way it's done is by defining "page transition"[The transition
speed is also adjustable] and as I recall you can do other types of
transitions(from page to page). Also Pro Video Post comes in several different
flavors(I forget which one I used... I can find out though.). The most
impressive feature in Pro Video Post is the digital special effects. i.e. You
can do things like define a page that will ZOOM and ROTATE from various regions
on the screen.

All in all I would say that Pro Video Post offers alot, but is somewhat
cumbersome to use[many keystrokes]. I would much prefer a "point-and-click"
appliciation.
