4037.0. "Need a 'multimedia' demo!" by ATPS::BARRY () Tue Aug 21 1990 18:27

Can anyone give me some ideas or contacts regarding available
presentation demos for the Amiga? I hesitate to use the word
'multimedia', but what I'm looking for is a demo that would show
what such a presentation might look like and would also 'show off'
the Amiga. This demo would be presented to my group's management
who is interested in the feasibiility of in-house development of
    'multimedia'-type presentations.

If anyone has done this before or knows who I could contact about
something like this, I would greatly appreciate the help. By the
way, we'll also need to find an Amiga for the demo...:-(

In the meantime, I'll continue to pour through these 4000-odd notes!

I think the CanDo demo is a good example of 'multimedia' operation on
the Amiga. It includes sounds, animation and user interaction. This
demo appears to be in TAPE""::USER2:[AMIGA.UTILITIES]CanDo*.WRP.

Some of the "BADGE Killer" demos (on various Fish disks) might be of
interest, but most of these tend to be of the sit_back_and_watch_it
    variety (non-interactive).

Anybody got any decent AmigaVision or DeluxeVideo demos?
4037.2AmigaVision needed for runtimeSALEM::LEIMBERGERFri Aug 24 1990 13:546
AmigaVision requires that the user have AmigaVision on the system
before you can execute a runtime application. This is the one drawback
that it has. I have played with it all weekend, and it is a great
program. I feel it will be a tough act for Apple, and Ibm to follow.

    re .2

AmigaVision doesn't require runtime support. There are special
switches that allow you to build a standalone program.

Re: .3

Are you talking about the "Install" and such menu items? They just
copy your application to a floppy: you still need AmigaVision to
run it.

I found the documentation confusing on this issue. It makes it
sound like you can produce a standalone presentation. However,
nothing I've tried allowed it.

I would like to be wrong about this. The lack of a PD player for
AmigaVision is a major mistake for Commodore. The only thing
lessening the mistake is that Commodore will bundle AmigaVision
with certain hardware packages (eg, the Amiga 500P).

if somebody figures out how to do a standalone demo, could you
    upload it to TAPE::USER2:[UPLOAD]?

I'm curious to see what is so wonderful about what AmigaVision
    can do.

Has CBM done a demo version or are there examples of what can
    be done with it?

p.s. I tried the Disney Animation Studio demo reel last night, amazingly
smooth animation. Great subject too for Donald Duck :-)

I was at the software shop (and Moe's getting back to his 'humble' self
again :-( Think I'll start going to The Memory Location!)

He had a Multi-Media demo sthat I think came from Commodore (lots of C= logos)

It was real nice!

John,

Do you think Mo will let you UPLOAD the demo?

The Demo for the 3000 looks like it was done using amigavision. At
least it was produced by the developers of Amigavision. I don't think
it actually was done using Amigavision,it only has the about it.
I think a pd driver would have been nice, but feel CBM did not consider
this because of the complexity of running interactive applications.
Given that it is bundled with systems starting at the 500P level lack
of the driver is actually a moot point.
I find it easier to use than CanDo, and have dumped Deluxe Video
for good. AmigaVision seems to be the best MultiMedia package for
now with CanDo a close second. CanDo has enough features that I
hesitate to dump it outright. It's hard to discribe all the features
that make AmigaVision the product it is. Until you sit down, and
actually read the manual the potential of the program is not apparent.
I first saw it at the Multimedia Live Show CBM put on in Washington DC.
The demo was put out to a full size movie screen, and full stereo sound.
Their is an AmigaVision demo that we may upload, but it's useless
without AmigaVision.Your best bet is to get to a dealer an check it
out. Even if you never develop a money making application the program
is fun. Of course if it needed for a large scale demo you may get
support from your local dealer. A dog,and pony show could go a long
way in selling corporate accounts. CBM has worked through System eyes
and other dealers to this end before.
