Hi, I'm going on an MBA course in October where they'll lend us each a Macintosh (+ modem and software package they said). As I have an Amiga already, I thought I could keep using ProPage/Draw and print on a Laserwriter via the Macintosh. The question is, how do I transfer files from the Amiga to the Macintosh ? So far, I have been using the VT200 emulator to transfer from/to the Vax. Is there a similar PD emulator for the Mac ? Yv <posted in the Macintosh conference too>

One possible way to transfer files between the Apple Mac and the Amiga is through the RS232 ports, using a program called Kermit. This program can be found in all good PD libraries, and may be on use_net. ( See the Easynotes Documents for its location. ) If you cannot find it, then it most certainly on the Fred Fish PD disk, Gold Fish 2 disk. It is then just simply a case of transfering files from one machine to another by making one the server and the other one the client. Hope this has been of some use, Ric.

Of course since the postscript file you will be transmitting is a text file your task is fairly easy. From note .0 I see you have a modem that comes with the Mac. Well the software they supply to work with the modem should do nicely with a null modem cable, and to connect to the vax.(may not be as nice as vt200 though) The other optin is to purchase Mac to Dos from Central Coast Software then you can simply copy the files in Mac format to the Mac external floppy. This would be very clean, and even after you have returned the Mac you would have the transfer capability. The only reason I don't do it is the need to buy a Mac drive for the program. If you went this route you'd have acsess to the many printing services that use Mac front ends. bill

Can't you get a cable and hook the laserwriter directly to the Amiga? - steve

re:.1 I suppose Kermit is the simplest/cheapest alternative. I have it on the Amiga side already (via VT200/Smokey). re:.2 I'd rather not buy an extra drive+s/w when a cable is all I need really. re:.3 I can't hook the Amiga directly to the Laserwriter because the former is at home and the latter at school. thanks to all, Yv |
