3960.0. "Used AMIGA 2000A - What is it worth..?" by OLYMP::RUEFF (Ronny Rueff, Marketing, Switzerland) Thu Jul 26 1990 09:48

What would be a reasonable price to pay for an AMIGA 2000A with 1.5 MB RAM
Monitor, 2 3.5" Floppies and Seagate 65ms HD + Controller.

Will all sw run on a 2000A or is there sw around for 2000B only?

I am c complete novice to AMIGA and could buy such a used system for
the little son of my sister as he has been saving for an AMIGA 1000 quite
some time now.

Thanks for any help!

3960.1I'd pay $1200 for it.READ::POMEROYMon Jul 30 1990 12:2117
    Maybe I have been missing the boat, but I have been somewhat involved
    in the Amiga world for a few year now, and I have never heard Amiga
    2000A/2000B. An Amiga 2000 (which comes standard with 1 meg RAM, 1
    3.5" drive, keyboard, mouse) can be had for $800 or less. (I just sold
    one for $800) The extra 3.5" drive is worth about $70. The monitor is
    maybe another $100 or more (not sure about that price). As for the HD
    and controller, maybe $100 for the controller and whatever the
    drive is worth. For a 65ms Seagate, I wouldn't pay more than $5 per meg
    of capacity, not more than $200-300 no matter what size it is.

    All in all, maybe $1200 for the system with original manuals/software.
    Less if the Kickstart (ROM OS) revision is less than 1.3 and you don't
    get Workbench 1.3.2

3960.2one more thing...READ::POMEROYMon Jul 30 1990 12:2412
    P.S. are you sure you didn't mean A2000 which stands for Amiga 2000
    when you said 2000A.

    BTW, there are a lot of good cheap systems selling right now with all
    the old time amiga users upgrading to 3000s etc... If the person you
    know wants a lot of money, it may be worth it to look around especially
    USENET or at a dealership which takes trade ins or sells on
    consignment.

    Re .0:

    I think the base note is referring to an early German-made A2000.
    Early U.S. units were referred to as "B2000" models, though this
    notation seems to have fallen from use. There ARE some differences
    between the models (which are documented at some length in this
    conference, should one wish to dig into history).

    The VAST MAJORITY of Amiga software runs on all models from all eras.
    There's a higher probability that a program will have trouble due to
    the AmigaDOS version than due to the difference between the "A2000" and
    "B2000".
3960.4Right! It is a german 'A' hardware - OLD!OLYMP::RUEFFRonny Rueff, Marketing, SwitzerlandTue Jul 31 1990 03:5514
    Absolutely correct! This is one of the 'famous made in Germany' systems
    that do not seem to provide the same  h a r d w a r e  functionality as
    the 'B' versions (also look at note 1385.*).
    Without any knowledge about Fat Agnus - the 'A's from Germany do not
    seem to support this chip and options like flicker fixer etc.
    The 'A' has 512+512 KB on Motherboard and another 512 KB connected as
    some kind of a rucksack... So it all ends up with 1.5 MB.

    Apparently it runs all software without problems but lacks the support
    for some hardware options that require the 'B' motherboard.

    The guy wants $ 700 for the complete system as described in .0 and if I
    interprete correctly this seems to be a reasonable price although it is
    an 'A' system...?
