3955.0. "Problems with ICONMASTER" by NITMOI::WITHERS (Another Hallmark Moment. -Al Bundy) Wed Jul 25 1990 13:05

I recently decided I wanted to start making my system Workbench
compatible (instead of merely using most everything from the CLI).
Because of this, I needed to make some Icons for my own programs
	and EXECUTE scripts.

From what I've gleaned, an EXECUTE script should use the default
tool of C:ICONX and all will be fine. I downloaded ICONMASTER
to do this and have had problems. Three times my system guru'ed
under ICONMASTER before I gave up for the night.

Any one else have problems with ICONMASTER? Any know any other
tools to make new Icons with new default tools?

	George

3955.1I use the standard AmigaDOS(R) toolsMILKWY::JANZENTom 2285421FXO/28 MicrowaveLogicQualWed Jul 25 1990 13:1620
I don't believe I have ever had a crash from my own icons. I used the
Commodore-provided (R) tools iconmerge and iconedit or whatever.
I probably made the default tool for execute command files sys:c/iconx.
I typically created them or edited them in notepad, saved the note to
ram:, brought it into iconedit, made the picture what I wanted, saved
it to ram:, used INFO to set the default tool, then mouse-copy the
    script to the drawer desired.
    whew.
I made executables' icons by going into iconedit, bringing in a tool
icon from somewhere, such as initprinter or clock, editing the picture,
saving it to RAM with a new name for my program, use the CLI to copy
the program to RAM (this is kind unnecessary but I'm scared of deleting
something), and then mouse-copy the program to the permanent home.
Sometime I should have checked the setting in INFO for the icon.
Such as the stack and that sort of thing. How about the stack? Are
    you setting the stack OK/
Remember that any setting set by a script run from an icon that closes
its CLI window might go away, such as aliases and assigns and default
    directories.

3955.2forgot INFO..dratNITMOI::WITHERSAnother Hallmark Moment. -Al BundyWed Jul 25 1990 18:3110
I had forgot how to set the default tool (INFO) (spent too much of the
last few years as a CLI-dweebie and couldn't remember it. The most
recent ICON topic had Ed A. recommending ICONMASTER. It is ICONMASTER
that was crashing my system, not the icon themselves. Now that I
remember how to set a tool (I was getting frustrated trying to find
the option in IconED) I'll use the AmigaDOS provided tools.

    Thanks!

You must have a bad copy of ICONMASTER. I've been using it since I
got my A2000HD in March and never had a problem after I got a good
copy working. I seem to remember that I tried 2 or 3 copies before
I down loaded one that worked.

I pulled it from TAPE:: and have been using it for 6 mos with no
crashes. I recall that there were duplicate copies scattered through
the directories on tape. I believe the one I am using was archived as
    a .arc file. FWIW

I gave up on ICONMASTER but pulled it from a .ZOO file (WJG?). I've been
hapily using the standard stuff now.
